Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
What is Bitcoin Cash?
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency that emerged in 2017 as a result of a hard fork from Bitcoin. It was created to address Bitcoin's scalability issues by increasing the block size limit, allowing for more transactions to be processed in each block. Operating on its own blockchain, Bitcoin Cash utilizes a proof-of-work consensus mechanism similar to Bitcoin. The native token, BCH, is primarily used for payments and transactions within its network, aiming to offer faster and cheaper transactions compared to Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash stands out due to its focus on being a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, emphasizing low transaction fees and reliable confirmations. This makes it particularly significant for everyday transactions and merchant adoption. Its larger block size compared to Bitcoin is a key distinguishing feature, enabling it to handle a higher volume of transactions, which is intended to enhance its usability as a digital currency.
When and how did Bitcoin Cash start?
Bitcoin Cash originated in August 2017 when a group of developers and miners initiated a hard fork from the Bitcoin blockchain. This decision was made to address Bitcoin's scalability issues by increasing the block size limit, allowing for more transactions per block. The hard fork resulted in the creation of a new cryptocurrency, Bitcoin Cash, which retained the original Bitcoin transaction history up to the point of the fork. There was no initial coin offering (ICO) or pre-mine; instead, Bitcoin holders received an equivalent amount of Bitcoin Cash at the time of the fork. This approach ensured that Bitcoin Cash was distributed fairly among existing Bitcoin users, establishing its initial user base and network. The early development of Bitcoin Cash focused on maintaining its independence from Bitcoin while enhancing transaction capacity and speed.
What’s coming up for Bitcoin Cash?
According to official updates, Bitcoin Cash is preparing for a protocol upgrade scheduled for May 2024. This upgrade is expected to focus on enhancing network scalability and transaction efficiency. In addition, the Bitcoin Cash community is working on improving privacy features, with a focus on enabling more confidential transactions. Another key initiative involves expanding the ecosystem through potential partnerships and integrations with payment processors, aimed at increasing adoption and usability. These milestones are designed to strengthen Bitcoin Cash's position as a fast and reliable payment system. The development progress and updates are regularly tracked through the project's official repositories and communication channels. The community is actively involved in discussions and governance decisions to ensure that the upgrades align with the broader goals of enhancing user experience and network security.

Who is Bitcoin Cash designed for?
Bitcoin Cash is designed primarily for consumers and businesses seeking a fast, reliable, and low-cost payment system. It enables users to conduct transactions with minimal fees, making it an attractive option for everyday purchases and cross-border payments. The platform provides various tools and resources, such as user-friendly wallets, to facilitate easy access and adoption. Secondary participants, like developers and merchants, are also engaged through the availability of documentation and development resources, allowing them to integrate Bitcoin Cash into their applications and services. This broadens the ecosystem by encouraging innovation and expanding the use cases of Bitcoin Cash in various commercial environments.
How is Bitcoin Cash secured?
Bitcoin Cash uses a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, similar to Bitcoin, where miners validate transactions and secure the network by solving complex mathematical problems. This process ensures that only legitimate transactions are added to the blockchain. The network utilizes the SHA-256 cryptographic hash function, which is a key component in securing transactions and maintaining data integrity. Miners are incentivized through block rewards and transaction fees, aligning their interests with the network's security and encouraging honest behavior. Bitcoin Cash does not employ slashing penalties, but the competitive nature of mining and the cost of resources act as a deterrent against malicious actions. The network's security is further enhanced by its open-source nature, allowing for regular audits and community-driven improvements. These elements collectively contribute to the robustness and resilience of Bitcoin Cash.
Has Bitcoin Cash faced any controversy or risks?
Bitcoin Cash has faced several controversies and risks since its inception. One significant controversy involved its creation in August 2017, which resulted from a hard fork of Bitcoin due to disagreements over block size limits. This split led to a contentious community divide and debates over the project's direction. In November 2018, Bitcoin Cash underwent another hard fork, leading to the creation of Bitcoin SV, further fragmenting the community. Technical risks have also been present, including concerns over network security and scalability. The team has addressed these through regular updates and protocol improvements. Additionally, regulatory challenges are ongoing, with scrutiny over its use in illicit activities due to its fast transaction capabilities. Bitcoin Cash has implemented measures such as network upgrades and community governance to mitigate risks. However, it continues to face market volatility and regulatory uncertainties, which are addressed through active development and efforts to maintain transparency within the community.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
