Swingby (SWINGBY)
What is Swingby?
Swingby (SWINGBY) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project launched in 2020, designed to facilitate cross-chain asset transfers. It aims to solve the problem of interoperability between different blockchain networks, allowing users to move assets seamlessly across various platforms without the need for centralized exchanges. The project operates on a unique protocol that leverages a decentralized network of nodes to enable the transfer of tokens between blockchains. This technology allows for the creation of wrapped tokens, which represent assets from one blockchain on another, enhancing liquidity and accessibility. The native token, SWINGBY, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including transaction fees, staking, and governance. Users can stake SWINGBY tokens to earn rewards and participate in decision-making processes regarding the platform's development and future direction. Swingby stands out for its innovative approach to cross-chain interoperability and its focus on providing a decentralized solution for asset transfers, positioning it as a significant player in the evolving DeFi landscape.
When and how did Swingby start?
Swingby originated in November 2020 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in December 2020, allowing developers and users to experiment with its cross-chain technology. Following the testnet phase, Swingby transitioned to its mainnet launch in March 2021, marking its official entry into the market and enabling users to utilize its services for cross-chain asset swaps. Early development focused on creating a decentralized protocol that facilitates seamless transfers of assets across different blockchains, addressing the interoperability challenges in the crypto space. The initial distribution of the Swingby token occurred through a fair launch model in March 2021, which aimed to ensure equitable access for participants. These foundational steps established Swingby as a notable player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, paving the way for its future growth and adoption.
What’s coming up for Swingby?
According to official updates, Swingby is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing cross-chain functionality, scheduled for Q1 2024. This upgrade is expected to improve transaction speeds and reduce fees, thereby enhancing user experience. Additionally, Swingby is working on integrating with several new blockchain networks, with targeted partnerships set to be announced in the coming months. These initiatives are designed to expand Swingby’s ecosystem and increase its utility within the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official roadmap and community updates, ensuring transparency and engagement with users.

These developments and integrations support Swingby’s relevance in the rapidly evolving DeFi landscape, showcasing its potential to adapt and grow within the sector.
Who is Swingby designed for?
Swingby is designed for developers and users, enabling them to facilitate cross-chain transactions and enhance interoperability between different blockchain networks. It provides essential tools and resources, including APIs and SDKs, to support the development of decentralized applications that require seamless asset transfers across chains. Secondary participants such as liquidity providers and validators engage with the platform by contributing liquidity and securing the network, respectively. This involvement not only enhances the overall functionality of Swingby but also fosters a collaborative ecosystem where users can access a broader range of decentralized finance (DeFi) services. By catering to both primary and secondary user groups, Swingby aims to create a robust infrastructure that supports diverse blockchain interactions and promotes innovation in the crypto space.
How is Swingby secured?
Swingby utilizes a decentralized network secured by a unique consensus mechanism known as the "Swingby Protocol," which is designed to facilitate cross-chain transactions. This protocol employs a combination of cryptographic techniques, including elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity across the network. In the Swingby ecosystem, validators play a crucial role in confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. These validators are selected based on their stake in the system, which aligns their incentives with the overall health of the network. Participants can earn rewards for validating transactions, while malicious behavior may lead to slashing penalties, thereby discouraging any attempts to compromise the network. The security of Swingby is further enhanced through regular audits and a robust governance framework that allows stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes. This multi-faceted approach to security, including the use of cryptographic primitives and incentive mechanisms, contributes to the resilience and reliability of the Swingby network.
Has Swingby faced any controversy or risks?
Swingby has faced risks primarily associated with the security of its cross-chain bridge technology. In early 2021, the project experienced a significant incident where vulnerabilities in its protocol were exploited, leading to the loss of funds. The team responded promptly by conducting a thorough investigation, patching the vulnerabilities, and implementing additional security measures to prevent future incidents. They also engaged with their community to provide transparency regarding the incident and the steps taken to enhance security. Ongoing risks for Swingby include the inherent vulnerabilities associated with blockchain bridges, such as potential exploits and regulatory scrutiny. To mitigate these risks, the project has committed to regular security audits, continuous monitoring of the protocol, and maintaining open communication with its user base regarding any potential threats or updates. This proactive approach aims to bolster user confidence and ensure the integrity of the platform.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
