What is Chronicle?
Chronicle (XNL) is a blockchain project launched in 2021, designed to provide a decentralized platform for data storage and management. It aims to address the challenges of data integrity and accessibility in various industries by leveraging blockchain technology. The project operates on its own Layer 1 blockchain, utilizing a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism to ensure security and efficiency. The native token, XNL, serves multiple purposes within the Chronicle ecosystem, including transaction fees, staking, and governance, allowing holders to participate in decision-making processes related to the platform's development and operations. Chronicle stands out for its focus on providing a secure and transparent method for managing data, which is increasingly important in an era of growing concerns over data privacy and security. Its innovative approach positions it as a significant player in the blockchain space, particularly for businesses seeking reliable data solutions.
When and how did Chronicle start?
Chronicle originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early users to engage with the platform and provide feedback. Following successful testing, the mainnet was launched in September 2021, marking its initial public availability and enabling broader participation in the ecosystem. Early development focused on creating a robust infrastructure for data management and analytics within the blockchain space. The token's initial distribution occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, which aimed to ensure equitable access for all participants. These foundational steps established Chronicle's growth trajectory and set the stage for its ongoing development and community engagement.

The platform supports various applications, including wallets and marketplaces, that enhance user experience and accessibility. Overall, Chronicle fosters an interactive environment where users and developers can engage with the platform's features, contributing to its growth and utility in the broader blockchain landscape.
Is Chronicle still active or relevant?
Chronicle remains active through a recent upgrade announced in September 2023, which introduced several enhancements aimed at improving user experience and system efficiency. The development team is currently focusing on expanding its integration capabilities within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, ensuring that Chronicle can support a wider range of applications and services. In addition to ongoing development, Chronicle has maintained a presence on major trading platforms, with consistent trading volume indicating active market participation. The project also engages its community through regular updates on social media channels, fostering user interaction and feedback. Furthermore, Chronicle's governance model continues to be active, with proposals and votes occurring regularly, reflecting a commitment to community-driven decision-making. These indicators collectively support Chronicle's relevance within the blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors, demonstrating its adaptability and ongoing contributions to the ecosystem.
Who is Chronicle designed for?
Chronicle is designed for developers and institutions, enabling them to leverage its infrastructure for building decentralized applications and services. It provides essential tools and resources, including SDKs and APIs, to facilitate development and integration into existing systems. This support allows developers to create innovative solutions while ensuring compatibility with the broader blockchain ecosystem. Secondary participants, such as validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the network's security and decision-making processes. By fostering collaboration among these user groups, Chronicle aims to create a robust environment that encourages growth and adoption of its platform, ultimately enhancing the utility and functionality of its offerings for all stakeholders involved.
How is Chronicle secured?
Chronicle utilizes a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This process not only enhances security but also promotes decentralization, as it reduces the reliance on energy-intensive mining. To ensure data integrity and authentication, Chronicle employs advanced cryptographic techniques, including elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA). This cryptography secures transactions and verifies the identities of participants within the network. Incentives for validators are aligned through staking rewards, which are distributed for their participation in the network. Additionally, the protocol incorporates slashing mechanisms, where validators can lose a portion of their staked assets if they act maliciously or fail to validate transactions correctly. Further security measures include regular audits and a robust governance framework, which ensures that the network can adapt and respond to potential vulnerabilities. The diversity of client implementations also contributes to the overall resilience of the Chronicle network.
Has Chronicle faced any controversy or risks?
Chronicle has faced some controversy related to regulatory scrutiny and technical vulnerabilities since its inception. In early 2023, the project encountered a significant incident involving a smart contract exploit that resulted in the loss of user funds. The team responded promptly by pausing the affected contracts and conducting a thorough audit to identify the vulnerabilities. They implemented a patch to secure the contracts and initiated a reimbursement program for the impacted users. Additionally, Chronicle has navigated regulatory challenges, particularly concerning compliance with local laws in various jurisdictions. The team has worked to enhance transparency and engage with regulators to ensure adherence to evolving legal frameworks. Ongoing risks for Chronicle include market volatility and potential security threats, which are common in the blockchain space. To mitigate these risks, the project emphasizes regular security audits, community engagement, and the establishment of a bug bounty program to encourage proactive identification of vulnerabilities.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
