What is Curate?
Curate (XCUR) is a decentralized marketplace and protocol launched in 2021, designed to facilitate the buying, selling, and trading of digital assets, particularly non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The project aims to empower users by providing them with a platform to curate and showcase their digital collections while ensuring fair compensation for creators. Curate operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to enable secure and transparent transactions. Its native token, XCUR, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including transaction fees, staking rewards, and governance, allowing holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding platform developments and features. What sets Curate apart is its focus on user empowerment and community-driven curation, which fosters a vibrant ecosystem for both creators and collectors. By addressing the challenges of traditional marketplaces, Curate positions itself as a significant player in the evolving landscape of digital asset trading and NFT marketplaces.
When and how did Curate start?
Curate originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early users to engage with the platform and provide feedback. Following this, the mainnet was officially launched in September 2021, marking its full public availability and operational capabilities. Early development focused on creating a decentralized marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), aiming to enhance user experience and accessibility within the digital asset space. The token's initial distribution occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, which allowed participants to acquire tokens without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods. These foundational steps established the groundwork for Curate's growth and the development of its ecosystem, positioning it as a player in the evolving NFT market.
What’s coming up for Curate?
According to official updates, Curate is preparing for a significant platform upgrade scheduled for Q1 2024, which aims to enhance user experience and scalability. Who is Curate designed for?
Curate is designed for consumers and creators in the digital asset space, enabling them to engage in decentralized commerce and content curation. It provides tools and resources that facilitate the creation, buying, and selling of digital assets, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Users can leverage the platform's marketplace to showcase their creations and connect with potential buyers, enhancing their visibility and sales opportunities. Secondary participants, such as developers and validators, engage through governance and staking mechanisms, contributing to the platform's security and decision-making processes. Developers can utilize APIs and SDKs to build applications that integrate with the Curate ecosystem, fostering innovation and expanding the platform's capabilities. Overall, Curate aims to empower users by providing a robust infrastructure for digital asset management and commerce.
How is Curate secured?
Curate employs a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. This model requires validators to stake a certain amount of Curate tokens, which serves as collateral to ensure honest participation. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA), to secure transactions and ensure data integrity. Incentives for validators are aligned through staking rewards, which are distributed for validating transactions accurately. To discourage malicious behavior, the network implements slashing penalties, where a portion of a validator's staked tokens can be forfeited in the event of dishonest actions or failure to validate correctly. Additional security measures include regular audits and a robust governance framework that allows token holders to participate in decision-making processes. This multi-faceted approach enhances the resilience of the network, ensuring that it remains secure and operational in the face of potential threats.
Has Curate faced any controversy or risks?
Curate has faced some risks primarily related to the broader challenges in the decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) sectors. In 2022, the project encountered a security incident where vulnerabilities in its smart contracts were identified, raising concerns about potential exploits. The team responded promptly by conducting a thorough audit of the code and implementing necessary patches to enhance security. They also initiated a bug bounty program to incentivize community members to report any further vulnerabilities. Additionally, like many projects in the crypto space, Curate is subject to regulatory scrutiny, particularly regarding compliance with evolving laws that govern digital assets. The team has been proactive in addressing these challenges by engaging with legal experts and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations. Ongoing risks include market volatility and potential technical issues, which are mitigated through regular audits, transparent communication with the community, and continuous development practices aimed at improving the platform's resilience.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
