What is Tribe?
Tribe (TRIBE) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project launched in 2021. It is designed to provide a stablecoin ecosystem through its association with the Fei Protocol. Tribe operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing the ERC-20 token standard to facilitate governance within the Fei Protocol. The TRIBE token plays a crucial role in the governance of the protocol, allowing holders to vote on various proposals and changes to the system. The project aims to maintain a stablecoin, FEI, that is more capital-efficient and decentralized compared to traditional stablecoins. Tribe stands out for its innovative approach to stablecoin collateralization and governance, positioning it as a significant player in the DeFi space. The TRIBE token is integral to the protocol's governance, enabling decentralized decision-making and adjustments to the protocol's parameters.
When and how did Tribe start?
Tribe originated in December 2020 when the founding organization, Fei Labs, released its whitepaper. The project aimed to create a decentralized stablecoin platform and was built on the Ethereum blockchain. Tribe's mainnet officially launched in April 2021, marking its initial public availability. The early development focused on creating a stablecoin system that utilized algorithmic mechanisms to maintain its peg. The initial distribution of the Tribe token occurred via an Initial DEX Offering (IDO) in March 2021. This distribution model allowed early participants to acquire tokens and contributed to establishing the foundation for Tribe's subsequent growth and ecosystem formation.
What’s coming up for Tribe?
According to official updates, Tribe is gearing up for several key developments. A significant protocol upgrade is planned for the next quarter, which aims to enhance the platform's scalability and performance. Additionally, Tribe is working on a new governance proposal that is expected to be voted on by the community in the coming months. This proposal focuses on improving user engagement and decision-making processes within the ecosystem. There are also plans for strategic integrations with other DeFi platforms, targeted for the first half of next year, to expand Tribe's functionality and reach. These upcoming milestones are designed to strengthen Tribe's infrastructure and broaden its adoption within the decentralized finance space. Progress on these initiatives can be tracked through the project's official repositories and roadmap updates.
What makes Tribe stand out?
Tribe stands out through its unique approach to decentralized governance and its integration with the Fei Protocol. What can you do with Tribe?
The TRIBE token primarily serves as a governance token within the Fei Protocol ecosystem. Holders of TRIBE can participate in governance proposals, allowing them to influence decisions regarding protocol upgrades, changes, and other critical aspects of the ecosystem's development. This participatory role helps ensure that the community has a say in the future direction of the protocol. Additionally, TRIBE can be used in conjunction with the Fei Protocol's stablecoin, FEI, to help maintain its stability and efficiency. While TRIBE is not used for transaction fees or as collateral, it plays a crucial role in the governance and decision-making processes of the protocol. Developers can engage with the Fei Protocol by building decentralized applications (dApps) that integrate TRIBE and FEI, leveraging the protocol's infrastructure to create innovative DeFi solutions. The ecosystem supports various wallets and platforms that facilitate interaction with TRIBE, enabling users to manage their tokens and participate in governance seamlessly.
Is Tribe still active or relevant?
Tribe remains active through recent governance activities and updates. As of October 2023, the project continues to engage its community with ongoing proposals and votes, which are crucial for its decentralized governance model. Development activity is evident on their GitHub, with recent commits focusing on enhancing the protocol's efficiency and security. Tribe is integrated within the DeFi ecosystem, maintaining partnerships that leverage its functionality in decentralized finance applications. The project's trading volume and presence on multiple exchanges indicate sustained market interest, supporting its relevance. These factors collectively demonstrate that Tribe remains an active and pertinent player in the DeFi sector.
Who is Tribe designed for?
Tribe is designed primarily for developers and users interested in decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. It enables them to access and participate in a stablecoin ecosystem through its governance token, which facilitates decentralized decision-making and community involvement. Tribe provides tools and resources such as developer documentation and APIs to support the integration and utilization of its stablecoin protocol, Fei Protocol. Secondary participants, including liquidity providers and governance participants, engage through activities like staking and voting, which help maintain the stability and efficiency of the ecosystem. By catering to these groups, Tribe aims to create a more resilient and community-driven financial system.
How is Tribe secured?
Tribe is secured using the Ethereum blockchain, leveraging Ethereum's robust security infrastructure. It operates under the Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining network integrity. Validators must stake a certain amount of cryptocurrency to participate, aligning their incentives with network security. This staking process helps ensure that validators act in the network's best interest, as they risk losing their staked assets through slashing if they engage in malicious activities. The protocol employs cryptographic techniques, such as the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure authentication and data integrity. Additional security measures include regular audits and a governance framework that allows for community-driven decision-making, enhancing transparency and resilience. These combined elements ensure that Tribe remains secure and resistant to potential threats, maintaining trust and reliability within its ecosystem.
Has Tribe faced any controversy or risks?
Tribe has encountered controversy primarily due to its involvement with the DeFi platform Fei Protocol. In April 2022, Fei Protocol was affected by a security breach resulting in the loss of approximately $80 million. The incident highlighted vulnerabilities within the platform's smart contract architecture. Tribe, being the governance token of Fei Protocol, was directly impacted by this event. The team responded by pausing certain protocol functions and proposing a reimbursement plan for affected users, which was subject to community governance votes. Additionally, there have been community disputes regarding the protocol's decentralization and decision-making processes, particularly in how the team manages security incidents and governance proposals. To address these issues, the team has increased transparency in its operations and governance, implementing more robust security audits and encouraging active community participation in decision-making. Ongoing risks for Tribe include technical vulnerabilities and regulatory scrutiny, which the team continues to mitigate through regular audits and community engagement.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
