Illuvium (ILV)
What is Illuvium?
Illuvium (ILV) is a blockchain-based gaming project launched in 2020 by Kieran and Aaron Warwick. It is designed to create an open-world fantasy battle game that combines elements of decentralized finance (DeFi) with a play-to-earn model. Illuvium operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing the ERC-20 token standard for its native token, ILV. The ILV token serves multiple roles within the ecosystem, including governance, staking, and rewarding players. Players can earn ILV through gameplay and participate in the governance of the Illuvium DAO, influencing future developments of the project. Illuvium stands out for its integration of blockchain technology with high-quality graphics and gameplay, offering a seamless and engaging experience for players. The project aims to provide a decentralized gaming environment where players have true ownership of in-game assets, which are represented as NFTs. This combination of cutting-edge technology and engaging gameplay positions Illuvium as a significant player in the emerging blockchain gaming industry.
When and how did Illuvium start?
Illuvium originated in September 2020 when co-founders Kieran and Aaron Warwick, along with a team of developers, began developing the project. The whitepaper was released shortly after, outlining their vision for a decentralized, open-world RPG game built on the Ethereum blockchain. The project launched its private beta in December 2021, followed by a public beta in 2022, marking its initial public availability. Early development focused on building a visually immersive game environment and integrating blockchain technology for asset ownership and trading. Who is Illuvium designed for?
Illuvium is designed primarily for gamers and blockchain enthusiasts who are interested in play-to-earn ecosystems. It enables them to engage in a decentralized gaming environment where they can capture, collect, and trade in-game assets, known as Illuvials, which are tokenized on the blockchain. The platform provides resources such as a user-friendly interface and a marketplace for trading these assets, enhancing the gaming experience and offering potential financial rewards. Secondary participants include developers and content creators, who can contribute to the ecosystem by building on the Illuvium platform and creating new content or experiences. They can engage with the platform through development tools and participate in governance, influencing the future direction of the game and its features. This multi-faceted approach allows Illuvium to cater to a diverse audience, fostering a vibrant and interactive community.
How is Illuvium secured?
Illuvium is secured using the Ethereum blockchain, which utilizes a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Validators in this model are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the network's integrity. They are required to stake a certain amount of cryptocurrency, which aligns their incentives with the network's health and security. To ensure data integrity and authentication, Illuvium employs cryptographic techniques such as the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), which is standard in Ethereum-based applications. The network's security is further reinforced through staking rewards, which incentivize validators to act honestly, and slashing penalties, which deter malicious activities by penalizing validators who act against the network's interests. Illuvium also benefits from Ethereum's robust security measures, including regular audits and a strong governance framework, which enhance the overall resilience and trustworthiness of the platform.
Has Illuvium faced any controversy or risks?
Illuvium has faced certain risks and controversies, primarily in the technical and community domains. In March 2023, a significant technical challenge arose when vulnerabilities were discovered in its smart contracts. The Illuvium team promptly addressed this by deploying patches and conducting comprehensive audits to ensure security. Additionally, the project has encountered community disputes related to governance decisions, particularly concerning the allocation of resources and development priorities. These were managed through transparent community discussions and voting mechanisms to reach consensus. As with many blockchain projects, Illuvium continues to face ongoing risks, including market volatility and regulatory uncertainties. These are mitigated by maintaining open communication with its community and adhering to best practices in development and security audits. The team also emphasizes transparency and regularly updates stakeholders on risk management strategies to sustain trust and engagement.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
