Edge (EDGE)
What is Edge?
Edge (EDGE) is a cryptocurrency project launched in 2018 by a team focused on enhancing user privacy and security in the digital asset space. It was created to provide a user-friendly platform for managing cryptocurrencies while ensuring that users retain control over their private keys and personal data. The project operates on a decentralized architecture, utilizing a combination of blockchain technology and secure wallet solutions. This enables users to perform transactions, store assets, and interact with decentralized applications (dApps) seamlessly. Its native token, EDGE, serves multiple purposes, including facilitating transactions within the ecosystem, providing access to premium features, and incentivizing user engagement. Edge stands out for its emphasis on privacy and security, offering features such as client-side encryption and a non-custodial wallet model. This positions it as a significant player in the cryptocurrency landscape, appealing to users who prioritize control over their digital assets and data privacy.
When and how did Edge start?
Edge originated in 2014 when the founding team, led by Paul Puey, released its initial whitepaper outlining the vision for a user-friendly cryptocurrency wallet. The project aimed to empower users by providing them with a secure and private way to manage their digital assets. Edge launched its testnet in early 2015, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with the platform's features and functionality. The mainnet was subsequently launched in 2018, marking the project's transition to a fully operational state. Early development focused on creating a decentralized wallet that prioritized user control and security, leveraging a unique architecture that allows users to hold their private keys. The initial distribution of the Edge token occurred through a token sale in 2018, which helped fund the project's ongoing development and marketing efforts. These foundational steps set the stage for Edge's growth and its commitment to enhancing user experience in the cryptocurrency space.
What’s coming up for Edge?
According to official updates, Edge is preparing for a significant feature release aimed at enhancing user experience, scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. This update will focus on improving the wallet's functionality and security features, making it more user-friendly for both new and experienced users. Additionally, Edge is working on integrating with several new blockchain networks, which is expected to broaden its ecosystem and provide users with more options for managing their digital assets. These initiatives are part of Edge's ongoing commitment to enhance its platform and maintain relevance in the rapidly evolving crypto space. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official channels.

Edge is designed for individual users and consumers who seek a secure and user-friendly platform for managing their cryptocurrency assets. It enables them to easily buy, sell, and store various cryptocurrencies while maintaining control over their private keys. The platform provides essential tools and resources, including a mobile wallet that supports multiple cryptocurrencies, making it accessible for users at different experience levels. Secondary participants, such as developers and creators, can engage with Edge through its API and SDK offerings, which allow for the integration of additional features and functionalities into their applications. This fosters a collaborative environment where developers can build on Edge's infrastructure, contributing to the overall growth and innovation within the ecosystem. By catering to both individual users and developers, Edge aims to enhance the accessibility and usability of cryptocurrency for a broader audience.
How is Edge secured?
Edge employs a decentralized consensus mechanism that relies on a network of validators to confirm transactions and maintain the integrity of the blockchain. This model ensures that all transactions are verified by multiple participants, reducing the risk of fraud and enhancing security. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure authentication and data integrity, safeguarding user assets and transaction details. Incentives for validators are structured through a rewards system, where participants earn tokens for their contributions to the network. This aligns their interests with the overall health of the ecosystem. Additionally, Edge incorporates slashing mechanisms to penalize malicious behavior, further reinforcing security by discouraging actions that could compromise the network. To bolster its security framework, Edge undergoes regular audits and maintains governance processes that involve community participation. This multi-faceted approach, combined with client diversity, enhances the resilience of the network against potential attacks and vulnerabilities.
Has Edge faced any controversy or risks?
Edge has faced some risks primarily related to security and regulatory challenges. In 2020, the platform experienced a significant security incident where users reported unauthorized access to their accounts, leading to concerns about the safety of private keys and user funds. The Edge team responded promptly by enhancing their security protocols, including implementing multi-factor authentication and conducting a thorough security audit to identify vulnerabilities. Additionally, Edge has navigated regulatory scrutiny, particularly concerning compliance with financial regulations in various jurisdictions. The team has worked to ensure adherence to local laws by engaging with legal experts and adjusting their operational practices accordingly. Ongoing risks for Edge include market volatility and potential regulatory changes that could impact its operations. To mitigate these risks, Edge emphasizes transparency in its operations and maintains a commitment to regular security audits and updates to its platform, ensuring that user funds remain secure and compliant with evolving regulations.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
