Verasity (VRA)
What is Verasity?
Verasity (VRA) is a blockchain-based platform launched in 2018 that aims to enhance the video streaming experience by integrating blockchain technology into the digital content ecosystem. It was created to address issues such as ad fraud, low engagement rates, and monetization challenges faced by content creators and advertisers. The project operates on its own layer-1 blockchain, utilizing a proof-of-view consensus mechanism that ensures genuine engagement with video content. This technology enables features such as secure video streaming, viewer rewards, and transparent ad transactions. Its native token, VRA, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including facilitating transactions, enabling staking, and rewarding users for their engagement with content. Verasity stands out for its unique approach to combating ad fraud and enhancing viewer engagement through its proof-of-view technology, positioning it as a significant player in the intersection of blockchain and digital media.
When and how did Verasity start?
Verasity originated in 2018 when the founding team, led by CEO RJ Mark, released its whitepaper outlining the project's vision to enhance video streaming and advertising through blockchain technology. The project launched its testnet in early 2019, allowing developers and users to explore its functionalities and features. This was followed by the mainnet launch in 2020, which marked the project's transition to a fully operational platform. Early development focused on creating a decentralized ecosystem for video content, aiming to improve user engagement and monetization for content creators. The initial distribution of Verasity's native token, VRA, occurred through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2019, which helped raise funds for further development and marketing efforts. These foundational steps established Verasity's framework for growth and its commitment to revolutionizing the online video industry.
What’s coming up for Verasity?
According to official updates, Verasity is preparing for the launch of its new video player, which is expected to enhance user experience and engagement, targeted for Q1 2024. Additionally, the team is working on integrating its Proof of View technology with various platforms to ensure content authenticity and combat fraud, with partnerships anticipated to be announced in the coming months. Verasity is also focused on expanding its ecosystem through the development of new features aimed at improving scalability and performance, with a roadmap that includes governance decisions and community engagement initiatives slated for mid-2024. These milestones aim to solidify Verasity's position in the digital content space, with progress tracked through their official channels.
What makes Verasity stand out?
Verasity distinguishes itself through its unique Proof of View (PoV) technology, which ensures that video views are genuine and not artificially inflated. This mechanism enhances the integrity of video advertising, providing a more reliable metric for advertisers and content creators. Verasity operates on its own blockchain, designed specifically for video content, which allows for seamless integration and low latency streaming. The platform also features a robust ecosystem that includes partnerships with various video platforms, enabling creators to monetize their content effectively through its integrated rewards system. Additionally, Verasity supports a decentralized governance model, allowing stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes, which fosters community engagement and transparency. Furthermore, Verasity's architecture is built to support high throughput and scalability, accommodating a growing user base and increasing demand for video content. This combination of innovative technology, a dedicated ecosystem, and community-driven governance sets Verasity apart in the rapidly evolving landscape of blockchain-based video solutions.
What can you do with Verasity?
The VRA token serves multiple practical utilities within the Verasity ecosystem. It is primarily used for transaction fees, enabling users to engage with various applications and services on the platform. Holders can stake their VRA tokens to help secure the network, which may also provide opportunities for rewards, depending on the staking mechanisms in place. Additionally, VRA token holders may participate in governance activities, allowing them to vote on proposals that influence the development and direction of the Verasity platform. This democratic approach fosters community involvement and ensures that stakeholders have a say in key decisions. For developers, Verasity offers tools and resources to build decentralized applications (dApps) and integrate with existing platforms. The ecosystem supports various wallets and services that facilitate the use of VRA for payments, rewards, and other functionalities, enhancing the overall user experience and engagement within the network.
Is Verasity still active or relevant?
Verasity remains active through a series of recent updates and developments. In September 2023, the project announced a significant upgrade to its Proof of View technology, enhancing its capabilities in combating ad fraud and ensuring content authenticity. This upgrade reflects Verasity's commitment to improving its core offerings and maintaining relevance in the competitive blockchain space. The project continues to engage with its community through active governance proposals, with several votes taking place in the last quarter of 2023, indicating ongoing participation and decision-making by stakeholders. Additionally, Verasity has established partnerships with various platforms, integrating its technology to enhance video monetization and engagement, which further solidifies its position within the digital advertising and esports sectors. These indicators support Verasity's continued relevance within the blockchain ecosystem, particularly in areas related to video content and advertising, where it aims to provide innovative solutions.
Who is Verasity designed for?
Verasity is designed for content creators, developers, and consumers within the digital video ecosystem, enabling them to enhance engagement and monetization. It provides tools and resources such as software development kits (SDKs) and application programming interfaces (APIs) to facilitate the integration of its technology into existing platforms. Primary users, including content creators and developers, can leverage Verasity's technology to implement features like proof of view, which ensures that views are genuine and not artificially inflated. This helps creators earn fair compensation for their content. Secondary participants, such as validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the network's security and decision-making processes. This collaborative environment fosters a robust ecosystem that supports both creators and consumers, ultimately driving innovation and value in the digital video space.
How is Verasity secured?
Verasity employs a Proof-of-View (PoV) consensus mechanism, which is designed to ensure that content is genuinely viewed and not artificially inflated through bots or other fraudulent means. In this model, validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. They are incentivized to act honestly through a reward system that compensates them for their contributions to the network. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, including Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to secure transactions and ensure data integrity. This cryptography plays a crucial role in authenticating users and safeguarding the network against unauthorized access. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, where participants can earn rewards for locking up their tokens to support network operations. Additionally, mechanisms such as slashing are implemented to penalize validators who act maliciously or fail to meet their obligations, thereby discouraging dishonest behavior. Verasity also incorporates regular audits and governance processes to enhance security and maintain trust within the ecosystem. These measures contribute to the overall resilience of the network, ensuring a secure environment for users and content creators alike.
Has Verasity faced any controversy or risks?
Verasity has faced some controversy related to its tokenomics and community governance. In 2021, the project encountered scrutiny over its token distribution model, which some community members felt was not transparent enough. This led to discussions within the community about the need for clearer communication and governance structures. The Verasity team responded by enhancing their transparency efforts, including regular updates and community engagement initiatives to address concerns. Additionally, there have been risks associated with the broader market volatility typical in the cryptocurrency space, which can impact the value of Verasity's native token, VRA. To mitigate these risks, Verasity has implemented ongoing development practices and audits to ensure the security of its platform. The team remains committed to maintaining a secure and transparent environment for its users, with a focus on continuous improvement and community involvement.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
