OpenXSwap (OPENX) is a decentralized exchange (DEX) platform launched in 2021, designed to facilitate seamless trading of cryptocurrencies. It aims to provide users with a secure and efficient environment for swapping digital assets without the need for intermediaries. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to enable automated trading and liquidity provision. The native token, OPENX, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including transaction fees, governance, and staking rewards. Users can stake their OPENX tokens to earn rewards and participate in decision-making processes regarding platform upgrades and changes. OpenXSwap stands out for its user-friendly interface and innovative liquidity pooling mechanisms, which enhance trading efficiency and reduce slippage. Its focus on decentralization and security positions it as a significant player in the DeFi space, catering to both novice and experienced traders looking for a reliable platform for cryptocurrency exchanges.
When and how did OpenXSwap start?
OpenXSwap originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early users to engage with the platform and provide feedback. Following successful testing, OpenXSwap transitioned to its mainnet launch in September 2021, marking its official entry into the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Early development focused on creating a user-friendly decentralized exchange that facilitates seamless token swaps across multiple blockchains. The initial distribution of the OpenXSwap token occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, which aimed to ensure equitable access for all participants. These foundational steps established OpenXSwap's growth trajectory and set the stage for its ecosystem development, positioning it as a notable player in the DeFi landscape.
What’s coming up for OpenXSwap?
According to official updates, OpenXSwap is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade planned for Q1 2024, aimed at enhancing transaction efficiency and user experience. This upgrade will introduce advanced liquidity features and improved cross-chain capabilities, which are expected to bolster the platform's overall performance. Additionally, OpenXSwap is targeting a strategic partnership with a leading DeFi project, anticipated to be finalized in Q2 2024, which will expand its ecosystem and user base. Who is OpenXSwap designed for?
OpenXSwap is designed for developers and users, enabling them to engage in decentralized trading and liquidity provision. It provides essential tools and resources, including APIs and SDKs, to facilitate the development and integration of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. This allows developers to build on the OpenXSwap platform and create innovative solutions that enhance user experience in trading and asset management. Secondary participants, such as liquidity providers and validators, can engage with the platform through staking and governance mechanisms. This involvement not only contributes to the liquidity and stability of the ecosystem but also allows these participants to have a say in the platform's future direction. By catering to both primary and secondary user groups, OpenXSwap fosters a collaborative environment that supports the growth and sustainability of its decentralized finance offerings.
How is OpenXSwap secured?
OpenXSwap employs a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This incentivizes participants to act honestly, as their staked assets can be slashed or forfeited in the event of malicious behavior. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography protects against unauthorized access and ensures that transactions are verifiable and tamper-proof. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network. This encourages active engagement and long-term commitment to the ecosystem. Additionally, OpenXSwap incorporates governance mechanisms that allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes, further enhancing the network's resilience. Regular audits and a focus on multi-client diversity also contribute to the overall security and robustness of the platform.
Has OpenXSwap faced any controversy or risks?
OpenXSwap has faced some risks primarily related to the security of its platform. In early 2023, the project experienced a minor exploit that targeted its liquidity pools, resulting in a temporary loss of funds. The team promptly addressed the incident by implementing a patch to secure the affected pools and conducted a thorough audit of the platform to identify and rectify any vulnerabilities. In addition to this incident, OpenXSwap operates in a regulatory environment that poses ongoing risks, as the landscape for decentralized finance (DeFi) continues to evolve. The team has committed to transparency and regular updates regarding compliance measures and security practices to mitigate these risks. Ongoing risk factors include market volatility and potential regulatory scrutiny, which the team aims to manage through continuous development and community engagement initiatives.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
