With its emphasis on security and speed, Bitlight aims to position itself as a significant player in the cryptocurrency landscape, catering to individuals and businesses seeking efficient digital payment solutions.
When and how did Bitlight start?
Bitlight originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with the platform's features and functionalities. Following successful testing, Bitlight transitioned to its mainnet launch in December 2021, marking its official entry into the cryptocurrency market. Early development focused on creating a scalable and efficient blockchain solution aimed at enhancing transaction speeds and reducing costs. The initial distribution of Bitlight tokens occurred through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in January 2022, which raised funds to support further development and ecosystem growth. These foundational steps established Bitlight's infrastructure and set the stage for its subsequent expansion within the blockchain space.
What’s coming up for Bitlight?
According to official updates, Bitlight is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing scalability and performance, scheduled for Q2 2024. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to improve user experience and transaction efficiency. Holders of Bitlight can participate in staking, which helps secure the network while potentially earning rewards. Additionally, users may have the opportunity to engage in governance proposals and voting, allowing them to influence the direction of the project. For developers, Bitlight provides tools and resources for building dApps and integrations, fostering innovation within the ecosystem. The platform supports various applications, including wallets that facilitate the storage and transfer of Bitlight tokens, as well as marketplaces where users can trade or utilize their tokens for specific functions. Overall, Bitlight offers a robust framework for users, holders, and developers to engage actively in its growing ecosystem.
Is Bitlight still active or relevant?
Bitlight remains active through a recent governance proposal announced in September 2023, indicating ongoing community engagement and decision-making. The project has also seen updates to its core protocol, with the latest version released in August 2023, focusing on enhancing transaction efficiency and security features. In terms of market presence, Bitlight is listed on several exchanges, maintaining a steady trading volume that reflects continued interest from investors. Additionally, the project has established partnerships with various platforms, integrating its technology to facilitate cross-platform transactions, which further supports its relevance in the crypto ecosystem. These indicators, including active development, community governance participation, and strategic integrations, affirm Bitlight's continued significance within the blockchain sector.
Who is Bitlight designed for?
Bitlight is designed for developers and consumers, enabling them to leverage its blockchain technology for various applications. It provides essential tools and resources, including SDKs and APIs, to facilitate the development and integration of decentralized applications. This support allows developers to create innovative solutions while ensuring seamless user experiences for consumers. Secondary participants, such as validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the network's security and decision-making processes. By fostering collaboration among these user groups, Bitlight aims to build a robust ecosystem that supports diverse use cases, from payments to decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. The project’s focus on accessibility and user-friendly resources ensures that both technical and non-technical users can effectively participate in and benefit from the Bitlight platform.
How is Bitlight secured?
Bitlight employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to create new blocks based on the amount of Bitlight they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This incentivizes participants to act honestly, as their staked assets can be slashed or penalized for malicious behavior. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography safeguards transactions against forgery and ensures that only legitimate participants can validate transactions. Incentives are aligned through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their role in securing the network. Additionally, the network incorporates governance mechanisms that allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes, further enhancing its resilience. Regular audits and a focus on client diversity also contribute to the overall security and robustness of the Bitlight ecosystem.
Has Bitlight faced any controversy or risks?
Bitlight has faced some controversy related to security vulnerabilities and regulatory scrutiny. In early 2023, the project experienced a significant security incident where a vulnerability in its smart contract was exploited, leading to a loss of user funds. The team promptly addressed the issue by implementing a patch to the affected contract and conducting a thorough audit to identify and rectify any additional vulnerabilities. They also initiated a reimbursement program for affected users to restore trust within the community. Additionally, Bitlight has encountered regulatory challenges, particularly concerning compliance with local laws in various jurisdictions. The team has worked to enhance transparency and engage with regulators to ensure adherence to evolving legal frameworks. Ongoing risks for Bitlight include market volatility and potential future regulatory changes, which the team aims to mitigate through continuous development practices, regular audits, and open communication with the community.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
