What is GatorSwap?
GatorSwap (GATOR) is a decentralized exchange (DEX) launched in 2021, designed to facilitate the swapping of various cryptocurrencies in a secure and efficient manner. The platform operates primarily on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), leveraging its low transaction fees and fast processing times to enhance user experience. GatorSwap's native token, GATOR, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including transaction fees, liquidity provision, and governance, allowing holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding platform developments and upgrades. What sets GatorSwap apart is its focus on user-friendly features, such as an intuitive interface and robust liquidity pools, which aim to attract both novice and experienced traders. Additionally, GatorSwap integrates yield farming opportunities, enabling users to earn rewards by providing liquidity to the platform. This combination of features positions GatorSwap as a significant player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, catering to the growing demand for efficient and accessible trading solutions.
When and how did GatorSwap start?
GatorSwap originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing users to experiment with the platform's features and functionalities in a controlled environment. Following successful testing and feedback, GatorSwap transitioned to its mainnet launch in September 2021, marking its official entry into the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Early development focused on creating a user-friendly decentralized exchange (DEX) that facilitated seamless trading and liquidity provision for various cryptocurrencies. The initial distribution of GatorSwap tokens occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, ensuring equitable access for early adopters and community members. These foundational steps established GatorSwap's ecosystem and set the stage for its growth in the competitive DeFi landscape.

Who is GatorSwap designed for?
GatorSwap is designed for both individual users and developers, enabling them to engage in decentralized trading and liquidity provision. For individual users, GatorSwap offers a platform to swap tokens and participate in yield farming, allowing them to maximize their returns on investments. Developers benefit from GatorSwap's infrastructure, which provides tools and resources for building decentralized applications (dApps) and integrating with the GatorSwap ecosystem. The platform supports user engagement through accessible wallets and APIs, facilitating seamless interaction with its services. Additionally, secondary participants such as liquidity providers and validators play a crucial role in maintaining the network's stability and efficiency. They contribute by providing liquidity to trading pairs and participating in governance decisions, thereby enhancing the overall functionality and growth of the GatorSwap ecosystem. This collaborative environment fosters a robust community focused on decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions.
How is GatorSwap secured?
GatorSwap employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, participants can become validators by staking a certain amount of the native token, which incentivizes them to act honestly and secure the network. The protocol utilizes cryptographic techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) to ensure authentication and data integrity, safeguarding against unauthorized access and tampering. To align incentives, GatorSwap offers staking rewards to validators for their participation in the network, while also implementing slashing penalties for malicious behavior or failure to validate transactions correctly. This dual approach encourages validators to act in the best interest of the network. Additional security measures include regular audits and a robust governance framework, which allows token holders to participate in decision-making processes. This governance structure, combined with multi-client diversity, enhances the resilience of GatorSwap against potential vulnerabilities and attacks.
Has GatorSwap faced any controversy or risks?
GatorSwap has faced several risks and controversies primarily related to security and regulatory challenges. In early 2023, the platform experienced a security incident involving a smart contract exploit that resulted in the loss of user funds. The team promptly addressed the issue by implementing a patch to the affected smart contracts and conducting a thorough audit to identify vulnerabilities. They also initiated a reimbursement program for affected users, demonstrating their commitment to community trust and safety. Additionally, GatorSwap has navigated regulatory scrutiny as governments worldwide tighten regulations on decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms. The team has proactively engaged with legal experts to ensure compliance with evolving regulations, which includes implementing KYC measures for users in certain jurisdictions. Ongoing risks for GatorSwap include market volatility, potential future exploits, and regulatory changes. To mitigate these risks, the project maintains a transparent development process, conducts regular security audits, and has established a bug bounty program to incentivize the community to report vulnerabilities.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
