Cardano's founder, Charles Hoskinson, defends past promises about fast transactions after criticism from the crypto community.

Charles Hoskinson, who founded Cardano, is facing some heat for his past statements. People in the crypto world are upset over his big promise that Hydra would handle over 1 million transactions every second (TPS). After many people said he was not being honest, Hoskinson spoke up, saying he always backs up what he says.

Charles defended himself on Twitter on October 5, showing evidence for his claims about Hydra and Cardano. He shared official documents from 2020 to support his earlier promise that Cardano could reach more than 1 million TPS with the help of Hydra. He explained that the big TPS number was a guess, thinking that if every Stake Pool Operator (SPO) used a Hydra head, and each head could do 1000 TPS, then together they could do 1 million TPS. Charles shared charts and research to show he wasn’t making things up.

Hoskinson was not happy with the criticism and explained that the way to measure TPS doesn’t work well for Cardano. Instead of the usual TPS system, Cardano works on a "transaction per transaction" basis, which means it deals with each transaction on its own. Even without following the common TPS measure, Cardano is still doing big NFT drops, handling DEX transactions, running smart contracts, and more. Charles also said that while Solana, another network, is known for doing lots of transactions, it uses a lot of data storage, which might be a problem in the future.
