Popular app MetaMask briefly vanishes from the Apple App Store, returning with no explanation. Users worry, and critics question Apple's tight rules.

On Saturday, the popular digital wallet app,MetaMask, suddenly disappeared from the Apple App Store. The company said it was not because of bad activities related to the app.

MetaMask quickly warned everyone: “Watch out for fake MetaMask apps and report them right away. We must fix this fast and keep users safe from fake apps.” Not long after, the app was back on the store, but no reason was given for why it was taken off in the first place.

Some people think it might be because of Apple's rule that says they get 30% of money from app sales and inside-app buys. This rule is not liked by many people who want to see Web3 technologies grow bigger.

This is not new for MetaMask. In 2019, it was removed from the Google Play Store for not following the rules. The sudden removal this time worried its 30 million users.

Some, like Anatoly Yakovenko from Solana, suggested that maybe it's time for a new app store. Adam Cochran thinks maybe it’s because MetaMask added a new payment method called Stripe, which might not follow Apple’s strict payment rules. In the past, other apps dealing with digital money and technology have also had problems with Apple’s store, showing this as a common issue.
