ZClassic (ZCL)
What is ZClassic?
ZClassic (ZCL) is a decentralized cryptocurrency launched in 2016 by Rhett Creighton. It was created as a fork of Zcash, with the primary aim of removing the founder's reward present in Zcash, thereby offering a more community-focused and equitable distribution model. ZClassic operates on a proof-of-work consensus mechanism, specifically utilizing the Equihash algorithm, which is also employed by Zcash. This ensures privacy and anonymity through zero-knowledge proofs, allowing transactions to be verified without revealing sender, receiver, or transaction amount details. The native token, ZCL, is primarily used for transactions within its network, capitalizing on the privacy features inherited from Zcash. ZClassic distinguishes itself by emphasizing user privacy and eliminating the founder's reward, which aligns with the ethos of decentralization and fairness. Although its market presence is modest, ZClassic remains a noteworthy example of community-driven cryptocurrency development focused on privacy.
When and how did ZClassic start?
ZClassic originated in November 2016 when it was created by Rhett Creighton. The project began as a fork of Zcash, aiming to remove the 20% Founders' Reward that was part of Zcash's protocol. ZClassic's mainnet launched shortly thereafter in the same month, marking its initial public availability. The project's early development focused on maintaining the privacy features of Zcash while eliminating the founder's fee, which was a significant point of contention in the Zcash community. ZClassic's initial distribution followed a fair launch model, with no pre-mining or initial coin offering (ICO), allowing miners to start mining the coin from the beginning without any pre-allocated advantages. These steps laid the groundwork for ZClassic's early adoption and community formation.
What’s coming up for ZClassic?
As of the latest official updates, ZClassic has not released a detailed roadmap outlining upcoming milestones. The project has historically focused on maintaining privacy features similar to those of Zcash, but without the founder's reward. While there may be community discussions or proposals regarding future developments, there are no confirmed protocol upgrades, product releases, or governance decisions officially scheduled at this time. To stay informed about potential updates or initiatives, it is advisable to monitor ZClassic's official communication channels such as their website, GitHub, or community forums. This will provide the most accurate and timely information regarding any new developments or changes in the project's direction.
What makes ZClassic stand out?
ZClassic stands out through its focus on privacy and security, leveraging the same zero-knowledge proof technology as Zcash, known as zk-SNARKs. This technology enables private transactions by allowing users to prove transactions without revealing the sender, recipient, or transaction amount. Unlike Zcash, ZClassic distinguishes itself by removing the founder’s reward, which means that miners receive the full block reward, aligning incentives more closely with the mining community. This approach supports a more decentralized and community-driven ecosystem. Additionally, ZClassic's architecture is built on a proof-of-work consensus mechanism, ensuring robust security and reliability. The project’s emphasis on privacy and community-centric governance contributes to its unique position in the cryptocurrency landscape, appealing to users who prioritize anonymity and equitable reward distribution.
What can you do with ZClassic?
ZClassic (ZCL) is primarily used for transactions, allowing users to send value with enhanced privacy due to its zero-knowledge proof technology. This privacy feature makes it appealing for those who prioritize confidentiality in their transactions. ZClassic does not currently support staking or governance mechanisms, focusing instead on providing an alternative to other privacy-focused cryptocurrencies without the founder's reward. Developers can leverage ZClassic to build privacy-centric applications, taking advantage of its blockchain for secure and anonymous transactions. The ecosystem supports various wallets that facilitate the storage and transfer of ZCL, ensuring users can manage their assets conveniently. Overall, ZClassic serves as a tool for private and secure digital transactions within its network.
Is ZClassic still active or relevant?
As of the latest available data, ZClassic does not appear to be highly active or relevant in the current cryptocurrency landscape. The project has not seen significant development updates or releases in recent months, and its GitHub repository shows minimal activity, indicating a lack of ongoing development efforts. Additionally, ZClassic's trading volume and presence on major exchanges are limited, which suggests reduced interest and engagement from the community and investors. There are no notable recent integrations or partnerships that would underscore its relevance within the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. These factors collectively suggest that ZClassic is not maintaining a prominent role or significant activity in the market at this time.
Who is ZClassic designed for?
ZClassic is designed for privacy-focused cryptocurrency users, enabling them to conduct transactions with enhanced anonymity. It provides a platform that eliminates the founders' reward, ensuring that all mining rewards go directly to the miners, which can be appealing to those interested in a fairer distribution model. Secondary participants, such as miners and blockchain enthusiasts, engage through mining activities, contributing to the network's security and decentralization. ZClassic's focus on privacy and equitable reward distribution attracts users who prioritize these values in their digital currency transactions.
How is ZClassic secured?
ZClassic uses a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, where miners validate transactions and secure the network by solving complex cryptographic puzzles. This process ensures that only valid transactions are added to the blockchain. The network employs zk-SNARKs (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge) for enhanced privacy, allowing transactions to be verified without revealing the sender, receiver, or transaction amount. Miners are incentivized through block rewards, which align their interests with the network's security and integrity. ZClassic does not have a founder’s reward, which differentiates it from some other cryptocurrencies, aiming to provide a fairer distribution of rewards among miners. These elements, combined with continuous community engagement and improvements, contribute to the robustness and security of the ZClassic network.
Has ZClassic faced any controversy or risks?
ZClassic has faced several controversies and risks primarily related to its technical and community aspects. One significant issue was its fork from Zcash in 2016, which led to community disputes over the direction of the project. The removal of the founder's reward from Zcash was a point of contention, raising governance challenges. In terms of technical risks, ZClassic has been vulnerable to the same privacy and security concerns that affect many privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. These include potential exploits and vulnerabilities inherent in zk-SNARKs, the cryptographic technology used for its privacy features. The project has also experienced challenges with maintaining active development and community engagement, leading to periods of stagnation. This was partly addressed through community-driven initiatives and attempts to revitalize interest, such as the Bitcoin Private fork. Ongoing risks for ZClassic include market volatility and regulatory scrutiny common to privacy coins, which are mitigated by efforts to maintain transparency and engage with the community for governance decisions. However, the project's relatively low activity level continues to be a concern for its long-term viability.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
