PiDAO (PIDAO)
What is PiDAO?
PiDAO (PIDAO) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project launched in 2020. It was created to facilitate the creation and management of decentralized asset management strategies, allowing users to invest in a diversified portfolio of cryptocurrencies through a single token. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to enable automated and transparent management of assets. Its native token, PIDAO, serves multiple purposes, including governance, where holders can vote on proposals affecting the protocol, and as a means of incentivizing participation in the ecosystem. PiDAO stands out for its innovative approach to creating decentralized asset management solutions, enabling users to gain exposure to various digital assets while minimizing risk through diversification. This positions PiDAO as a significant player in the DeFi space, catering to users seeking efficient and automated investment strategies.
When and how did PiDAO start?
PiDAO originated in September 2020 when a team of developers released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision for decentralized finance (DeFi) and governance. The project launched its testnet shortly thereafter, allowing users to experiment with its features and provide feedback. The mainnet was officially launched in December 2020, marking the project's transition to a fully operational state. Early development focused on creating a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that would enable users to manage and govern a diversified portfolio of assets. The initial distribution of PiDAO tokens occurred through a fair launch model, which began in December 2020. This approach aimed to ensure equitable access to the tokens while fostering community involvement from the outset. These foundational steps established PiDAO's framework for growth and its role within the broader DeFi ecosystem.
What’s coming up for PiDAO?
According to official updates, PiDAO is preparing for the launch of its new governance framework, which is planned for Q1 2024. This upgrade aims to enhance community participation and decision-making processes within the ecosystem. Additionally, PiDAO is working on integrating new liquidity pools and expanding its asset management capabilities, targeted for mid-2024. These initiatives are designed to improve the overall user experience and increase the efficiency of asset allocation within the platform. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through the official roadmap and community updates, ensuring transparency and engagement with stakeholders.

Who is PiDAO designed for?
PiDAO is designed for a diverse range of users, primarily targeting decentralized finance (DeFi) enthusiasts and liquidity providers. It enables them to manage and invest in decentralized assets through a structured and community-driven approach. By utilizing PiDAO, users can achieve greater financial autonomy and participate in governance decisions that shape the ecosystem. The platform provides essential tools and resources, including governance mechanisms and liquidity pools, to facilitate user engagement and investment strategies. Additionally, secondary participants such as developers and creators can engage with PiDAO through staking and governance participation, contributing to the overall growth and sustainability of the ecosystem. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and allows users to align their financial goals with the broader objectives of the PiDAO community.
How is PiDAO secured?
PiDAO employs a decentralized governance model that utilizes a unique consensus mechanism to secure its network. The protocol is built on Ethereum, leveraging its robust security features and established infrastructure. Transactions are validated through a network of participants who stake their tokens, thus aligning their incentives with the network's integrity. For cryptographic security, PiDAO utilizes standard cryptographic techniques such as ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm) for authentication and ensuring data integrity. This ensures that all transactions are securely signed and verifiable, maintaining trust within the ecosystem. Incentives for participants are structured through staking rewards, which encourage users to lock their tokens in the network, thereby contributing to its security and stability. Additionally, the protocol incorporates slashing mechanisms to penalize malicious behavior, further enhancing the security framework. To bolster resilience, PiDAO undergoes regular audits and maintains governance processes that allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making. This multi-faceted approach to security, combining cryptographic measures, economic incentives, and governance safeguards, helps ensure the integrity and reliability of the PiDAO network.
Has PiDAO faced any controversy or risks?
PiDAO has faced some risks primarily related to the technical aspects of decentralized finance (DeFi) and governance. One notable incident occurred in early 2021 when vulnerabilities in smart contracts were identified, raising concerns about potential exploits. The team responded by conducting a thorough audit of their contracts and implementing necessary patches to enhance security. Additionally, they initiated a bug bounty program to encourage community participation in identifying vulnerabilities. In terms of governance, there have been discussions within the community regarding decision-making processes and the distribution of power among token holders. These discussions sometimes led to disagreements on the direction of the project, but the team has worked to address these through transparent communication and proposals that seek to balance interests. Ongoing risks for PiDAO include market volatility, regulatory scrutiny, and the inherent technical risks associated with DeFi protocols. To mitigate these risks, the project emphasizes regular audits, community engagement, and maintaining a robust governance framework to adapt to changing circumstances.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
