What is Islander?
Islander (ISA) is a blockchain project launched in 2021, designed to facilitate decentralized applications and services within a community-driven ecosystem. It aims to address the challenges of scalability and user engagement in the blockchain space. The project operates on its own Layer 1 blockchain, utilizing a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism that enables efficient transaction processing and energy conservation. Its native token, ISA, serves multiple purposes, including transaction fees, staking rewards, and governance, allowing holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding the platform's development and upgrades. Islander stands out for its focus on community involvement and user-friendly interfaces, positioning it as an accessible platform for both developers and end-users. The project emphasizes building a sustainable ecosystem that fosters innovation and collaboration, making it significant in the evolving landscape of decentralized technologies.
When and how did Islander start?
Islander originated in March 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing developers and early adopters to explore its functionalities and provide feedback. Following successful testing, the mainnet was launched in September 2021, marking its official entry into the market. Early development focused on creating a decentralized platform aimed at enhancing user engagement and community participation. The initial distribution of tokens occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, which allowed participants to acquire tokens without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods. These foundational steps established Islander's ecosystem and set the stage for its future growth and development within the blockchain space.
What’s coming up for Islander?
According to official updates, Islander is preparing for a major protocol upgrade scheduled for Q1 2024, aimed at enhancing scalability and user experience. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to streamline transactions and improve overall network performance. Additionally, Islander is working on a strategic partnership with a prominent blockchain platform, expected to be finalized by mid-2024, which will facilitate cross-chain integrations and expand the ecosystem's reach. These initiatives are part of Islander's ongoing commitment to enhance its platform and user engagement, with progress being monitored through their official roadmap and community updates.
What makes Islander stand out?
Islander distinguishes itself through its innovative Layer 2 architecture, which enhances transaction throughput and reduces latency while maintaining robust security. This design incorporates a unique sharding mechanism that allows for parallel processing of transactions, significantly improving scalability and efficiency. Additionally, Islander employs a hybrid consensus model that combines proof-of-stake with delegated proof-of-stake, ensuring both decentralization and rapid finality. The platform also emphasizes interoperability, featuring cross-chain capabilities that facilitate seamless interactions with other blockchain ecosystems. This is bolstered by a suite of developer tools, including SDKs and APIs, which streamline the integration process for new applications. Islander’s ecosystem is further enriched by strategic partnerships with various DeFi projects and NFT platforms, enhancing its utility and user engagement. The governance model empowers token holders to participate in decision-making processes, fostering a community-driven approach to development and innovation. These elements collectively position Islander as a distinct player in the evolving blockchain landscape.

Who is Islander designed for?
Islander is designed for developers and consumers, enabling them to create and utilize decentralized applications effectively. It provides essential tools and resources, including SDKs and APIs, to facilitate development and integration into various platforms. The project aims to empower developers by offering a robust infrastructure that supports innovative solutions while ensuring a seamless user experience for consumers. Secondary participants such as validators and liquidity providers engage through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the network's security and decision-making processes. This collaborative environment fosters a vibrant ecosystem where all participants can thrive, aligning with Islander's mission to enhance accessibility and usability in the blockchain space. By catering to both primary and secondary user groups, Islander aims to create a comprehensive platform that meets diverse needs within the decentralized landscape.
How is Islander secured?
Islander employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. Validators are selected based on the amount of Islander tokens they stake, which incentivizes them to act honestly, as their stake can be slashed in the event of malicious behavior. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, including Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network, thereby encouraging active engagement. Additionally, the network incorporates governance mechanisms that allow token holders to participate in decision-making processes, further enhancing security and community involvement. Regular audits and a bug bounty program are in place to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, contributing to the overall resilience of the Islander network.
Has Islander faced any controversy or risks?
Islander has faced regulatory scrutiny related to compliance with local laws in various jurisdictions, particularly concerning its token offerings and trading practices. In mid-2022, the project encountered challenges when certain regulatory bodies raised concerns about its adherence to securities regulations. The team responded by enhancing their compliance framework, engaging legal advisors, and conducting a thorough review of their operations to ensure alignment with applicable laws. Additionally, there have been minor technical risks associated with smart contract vulnerabilities, which are common in blockchain projects. The Islander team proactively addressed these risks through regular audits and updates to their codebase, implementing patches to mitigate identified vulnerabilities. Ongoing risks include market volatility and potential regulatory changes, which the team aims to manage through transparent communication with the community and continuous improvement of their security protocols.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
