Who is Gapcoin designed for?
Gapcoin is designed for consumers and users seeking a decentralized payment solution, enabling them to conduct transactions efficiently and securely. It provides essential tools and resources, including user-friendly wallets and payment interfaces, to facilitate everyday transactions and enhance accessibility. Secondary participants, such as developers and liquidity providers, engage with Gapcoin through various means, including contributing to the platform's infrastructure and participating in governance. This involvement allows them to influence the project's direction and ensure its sustainability. By catering to both primary and secondary user groups, Gapcoin aims to create a robust ecosystem that supports a wide range of financial activities while promoting user engagement and community participation.
How is Gapcoin secured?
Gapcoin uses a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, where miners validate transactions and secure the network by solving complex mathematical problems. This process ensures that only legitimate transactions are added to the blockchain, maintaining the integrity of the network. The protocol employs cryptographic techniques such as the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) for authentication and data integrity, ensuring that transactions are securely signed and verified. Incentives for miners are aligned through block rewards, which are issued for successfully mining new blocks, thus encouraging participation in the network. There are no slashing penalties in the PoW model, but the competitive nature of mining discourages malicious behavior as miners invest resources to maintain their operations. Additional safeguards include regular audits and a transparent governance process, which help identify vulnerabilities and enhance the overall security of the network. The diversity of mining clients further contributes to resilience against attacks, ensuring that the network remains robust and secure.
Has Gapcoin faced any controversy or risks?
Gapcoin has faced some controversy related to its community governance and technical vulnerabilities. In early 2023, the project experienced a security incident where a vulnerability in its codebase was exploited, leading to a temporary halt in transactions. The team responded promptly by releasing a patch to address the exploit and conducted a thorough audit of the code to ensure no further vulnerabilities existed. They also communicated transparently with the community about the incident and the steps taken to resolve it. Additionally, there have been discussions within the community regarding governance decisions, particularly around the allocation of funds and project direction. The team has implemented a more structured governance model to enhance community involvement and decision-making processes. Ongoing risks for Gapcoin include market volatility and regulatory scrutiny, common to many blockchain projects. To mitigate these risks, the team emphasizes regular audits, community engagement, and transparent communication regarding project developments and challenges.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
