Blocksquare (BST)
What is Blocksquare?
Blocksquare (BST) is a blockchain project launched in 2020, designed to facilitate real estate tokenization. Its primary purpose is to enable fractional ownership of real estate assets, making property investment more accessible to a broader audience. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to ensure transparency and security in transactions. The native token, BST, serves multiple roles within the Blocksquare ecosystem, including payment for transaction fees, staking, and governance, allowing holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding the platform's development and operations. Blocksquare stands out for its focus on real estate, offering a unique solution to the challenges of traditional property investment, such as high entry costs and lack of liquidity. By leveraging blockchain technology, it aims to democratize access to real estate investments, positioning itself as a significant player in the growing field of asset tokenization.
When and how did Blocksquare start?
Blocksquare originated in 2018 when the founding team, consisting of co-founders Radoslav Kovač and Luka Kovač, released its whitepaper outlining the project’s vision for tokenizing real estate assets. The project launched its testnet in early 2019, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with the platform's functionalities. Following this, Blocksquare transitioned to its mainnet launch in December 2019, marking its initial public availability for users to engage with the ecosystem. Early development focused on creating a robust framework for real estate tokenization, enabling fractional ownership and investment in properties through blockchain technology. The initial distribution of Blocksquare tokens occurred via a private sale in 2019, which helped fund the project's development and establish a community of early supporters. These foundational steps set the stage for Blocksquare’s growth and the expansion of its ecosystem in the real estate sector.
What’s coming up for Blocksquare?
According to official updates, Blocksquare is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing its property tokenization capabilities, scheduled for Q1 2024. This upgrade will focus on improving scalability and user experience, allowing for more efficient transactions and broader adoption of real estate assets on the blockchain. Additionally, Blocksquare is working on new integrations with various decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, expected to roll out in the first half of 2024. These initiatives aim to expand Blocksquare's ecosystem and improve liquidity for tokenized assets. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official channels, ensuring transparency and community engagement throughout the development process.

Who is Blocksquare designed for?
Blocksquare is designed for real estate developers and property owners, enabling them to tokenize real estate assets and facilitate fractional ownership. This allows them to access a broader pool of investors and streamline property transactions. It provides tools and resources, including APIs and SDKs, to support the integration of blockchain technology into real estate processes. Secondary participants such as investors and consumers can engage with the platform by purchasing tokenized shares of properties, thereby gaining access to real estate investment opportunities that were previously limited to high-net-worth individuals. Additionally, institutions looking to diversify their portfolios can utilize Blocksquare's infrastructure to invest in real estate assets in a more liquid and accessible manner. This multi-faceted approach helps to create a more inclusive real estate market, enhancing liquidity and transparency in property investments.
How is Blocksquare secured?
Blocksquare employs a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This incentivizes participants to act honestly, as their staked assets can be slashed or penalized for malicious behavior. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, including elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography safeguards transactions against forgery and ensures that only authorized participants can validate transactions. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network. This reward system encourages active engagement and long-term commitment to the network's health. Additionally, Blocksquare incorporates governance processes that allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making, further enhancing the network's resilience. Regular audits and a focus on client diversity also contribute to the overall security and robustness of the Blocksquare ecosystem.
Has Blocksquare faced any controversy or risks?
Blocksquare has faced some risks primarily related to regulatory challenges and market volatility. As a project focused on real estate tokenization, it operates in a space that is increasingly scrutinized by regulatory bodies worldwide. In 2021, the team proactively engaged with legal experts to ensure compliance with applicable securities laws, which is crucial for maintaining legitimacy and user trust. Additionally, like many blockchain projects, Blocksquare is subject to technical risks, including potential vulnerabilities in smart contracts. The team has implemented regular audits and security assessments to identify and mitigate these risks. They also maintain a bug bounty program to encourage community involvement in identifying vulnerabilities. Ongoing risks for Blocksquare include market fluctuations and regulatory changes that could impact its operations. The team addresses these through transparent communication with stakeholders and by adapting their strategies to align with evolving legal frameworks. Overall, Blocksquare's approach to risk management emphasizes compliance, security, and community engagement.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
