Brazil's Central Bank has chosen 14 institutions, including Bradesco, Nubank, Itaú Unibanco, Banco do Brasil, B3, Visa, and Microsoft, to participate in the pilot phase of the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital real. The selected participants will be integrated into the Real Digital Pilot platform starting in mid-June 2023. Out of over 100 institutions across various financial sectors, the central bank received 36 interest proposals from payment institutions, cooperatives, public banks, crypto companies, financial market infrastructure operators, and payment settlement institutes.
