Cryptocurrency phishing attacks surged by 40% in 2022, with ongoing threats and evolving strategies highlighting the need for constant vigilance in the crypto space, according to cybersecurity firm Kaspersky.

Cryptocurrency phishing attacks have surged by 40% in 2022, according to Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. The company detected 5,040,520 crypto phishing attacks last year, a significant increase compared to 3,596,437 in 2021. These attacks often involve fake websites and communication channels that mimic legitimate companies, tricking users into sharing personal information and granting attackers access to crypto wallets and assets.

Despite the inability to predict whether the trend will continue in 2023, phishing attacks have maintained their momentum this year. For instance, in March, hardware cryptocurrency wallet provider Trezor warned users about attempts to steal their crypto through a fake Trezor site. Kaspersky's 2022 survey revealed that one in seven respondents had been affected by cryptocurrency phishing.

As phishing attacks predominantly involve giveaway scams or fake wallet phishing pages, attackers continue to evolve their strategies to capitalize on the allure of quick wealth associated with cryptocurrencies. Recently, Arbitrum investors were exposed to a phishing link via the platform's official Discord server, highlighting the need for constant vigilance in the crypto space.
