Hackers Steal $500,000 in Ether from a Telegram Trading Bot
Hackers Found a loophole and stole a lot of Ethereum from a Telegram trading bot. While these bots can earn big, they come with risks. Always be careful with your private keys.
Hackers stole over 280 Ethereum (ETH) due to a problem with the Maestro telegram trading bot. These bots do automatic trading, but using them can be risky.
Maestro Router 2 Contract had a security issue. A company called Beosin reported on X (like Twitter) that the hackers stole about 280 ETH (worth $500,000). They did this by tricking the system to send them other people's money.
Another company, PeckShield, said that because of this problem, a fake wallet took 37 million JOE tokens. The JOE token's price fell by 30%. Maestro couldn’t buy back the JOE tokens and pay back users.
The person who stole the Ethereum moved it to Railgun, a tool that hides where money goes.
After the problem, Maestro acted fast. They said, "We found the issue and fixed it. Trading is safe now, but some tokens are not available for now."
Maestro returned the lost money to its users. They said:
"Everyone who lost money got it back. Some even got more. We bought tokens and gave them back because it’s the fairest way to fix this."
In 2023, Maestro made a lot of money. They earned $20 million. Although these telegram bots can make good money, they can be risky if you give them your private keys. After the Maestro issue, someone on X (like Twitter) made a post saying, “Stay away from these bots. Be safe.”
Even though it's not safe to share private keys, Maestro said the problem was with the system and not with people's private keys.
