Nigeria Makes move Towards Employing Blockchain Technology
Nigeria's IT agency plans to use blockchain to stop fake university service certificates. This move aims to boost trust and grow the economy by $40 billion by 2030.
Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the leader of Nigeria's IT agency (NITDA), has shared plans to use blockchain technology for creating and checking National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates.
In Nigeria, the NYSC program asks young university graduates to serve the country for a year. They work on community projects and learn about different cultures in Nigeria.
The announcement was made at a meeting about using blockchain technology in Nigeria. The meeting was set up by NITDA and the Blockchain Association of Nigeria (SiBAN).
Many people in Nigeria have made fake NYSC certificates. To stop this, NITDA will help create a new system where all NYSC certificates will be stored using blockchain. This will make it easy for people to check if a certificate is real.
Abdullahi also said people who finish training with NITDA will get blockchain-based certificates. He talked about working with Nigeria's Central Bank too.
Abdullahi believes blockchain can help Nigeria's economy grow. He mentioned, "If we use blockchain properly, Nigeria can earn about $40 billion more by 2030."
Obinna Iwuno, the leader of SiBAN, was also at the meeting. He felt positive about the future of blockchain in Nigeria. He said the government sees the big potential of blockchain and wants to work closely with SiBAN to help the industry grow.
