Shiba Inu's Puppynet testnet is set for a major Ethereum upgrade, improving transaction speed, security, and scalability for Shibarium’s Layer-2 network.

The Shiba Inu ecosystem is preparing for a significant update to its Layer-2 scaling solution, Shibarium, through its testnet Puppynet. This upgrade will integrate Ethereum's Geth software and the Cancun hard fork, enhancing security, scalability, and overall performance. The changes are designed to strengthen Shibarium's network adoption, providing users with a smoother and faster experience.

Puppynet’s Upgrade: Bringing Ethereum’s Best Practices

The scheduled upgrade for Puppynet will take place on Friday at 2:30 a.m. ET at block 4,697,000. The update will incorporate the Bor upgrade to version 1.3.7-bone-beta, alongside the Cancun hard fork. According to Lucie, Shiba Inu’s marketing executive, this upgrade is vital for developers and aims to enhance network performance, security, and efficiency.

Lucie emphasized the importance of the update, stating,
“This upgrade is for Puppynet and is very important for developers! We’re rolling out some awesome changes that will make things run smoother, faster, and safer.”

The upgrade will integrate Ethereum’s Geth software into Shibarium’s testnet, bringing advanced features such as quicker smart contract execution, improved peer-to-peer networking, and enhanced block propagation. These enhancements will also strengthen the network’s proof-of-stake (PoS) bridge, enabling seamless cross-chain asset transfers between Shibarium and other blockchains.

Boosting Efficiency and Security

The upgrade is set to optimize gas fees, making transactions more affordable for users. Additionally, it will reduce the amount of historical block data, allowing Shibarium to remain lightweight as it grows. Security enhancements include better error handling, vulnerability fixes, and bug patches, all aimed at creating a more secure network for users and developers alike.

After the upgrade, users can expect faster transactions, stronger security measures, and more reliable cross-chain transfers. Improved disk space management will also help ensure the network operates efficiently as it expands. Lucie believes these changes will contribute to Shibarium’s wider adoption, potentially increasing the SHIB token burn rate.

The Shiba Inu team aims to burn more SHIB tokens as more people begin using Shibarium. As Lucie explained, the goal is to attract millions of users to the platform.
“The more users we have, the more SHIB can be burned, making it more valuable over time,” she said.

Preparing for the Upgrade

The Shiba Inu ecosystem team has urged node operators to update their software to version 1.3.7-bone-beta before the Cancun hard fork. This update reflects the meme coin's ongoing dedication to advancing the SHIB ecosystem. As part of its growth strategy, Shiba Inu is also planning to introduce decentralized governance in the near future, which was announced by Lucie last month.

In conclusion, the Puppynet upgrade is a significant step forward for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, integrating advanced features from Ethereum and improving security, scalability, and efficiency. As Shibarium continues to evolve, these updates are expected to boost adoption, potentially making the SHIB token more valuable as the platform grows.
