Russian Citizens are Worried about the Nation's Digital Ruble Plans.
Russia's main bank group asks for clear details on the country's new digital ruble as many people feel unsure about it.
Russia's main bank group, the Association of Russian Banks (ARB), wants clearer information about the country's plans for a digital ruble, noting that people are cautious about it.
According to reports, the ARB has asked the Central Bank to explain more about the digital ruble. The Central Bank is currently testing the digital currency with some other banks.
However, the ARB says:
“Many people in Russia are not sure about using the digital ruble. They are worried about it.”
The ARB also wants the Central Bank to ensure that people aren't forced to use a digital ruble wallet and to keep costs low for using the digital currency.
They have several questions for the Central Bank, like:
- What is the digital ruble exactly?
- Will banks get paid back for any costs related to the digital ruble?
- Do all banks have to join this project, and will they need to make any changes?
Oleg Sysuev, the boss of Alfa Bank in Russia, said that the details about the digital ruble are not very clear. He stated:
“Digital currencies like this are new worldwide. In Russia, we are trying to be leaders in this area, so there are many things we still need to understand.”
Some business leaders in Russia have mixed feelings about this digital currency. They wonder:
- How will banks be encouraged to use it?
- How will people become more interested in it?
- How will the Central Bank manage it?
However, the Central Bank thinks that launching the digital ruble can help Russia rely less on the U.S. dollar and reduce the growing interest in cryptocurrencies.
Elvira Nabiullina, the head of the bank, has supported the idea of a digital ruble for a long time. Some top politicians even believe that Russia's digital ruble could work together with China's digital currency and other similar currencies in the world.
