Ripple vs. SEC: Court Orders Both Parties to have a Settlement Talk
Ripple vs. SEC: Court orders settlement talks, Ripple scores partial win; SEC may appeal.
In the ongoing Ripple versus SEC lawsuit, Judge Sarah Netburn has asked both sides to agree on three possible dates for a settlement meeting. The judge suggests planning this meeting well in advance due to the busy court schedule. A settlement meeting is a chance for both sides to solve their dispute without going to trial.
Ripple Labs won an important legal victory when a judge decided they didn't break federal laws by selling their XRP token to the public. This decision increased XRP's value by 80% in one day. After this, Coinbase and other U.S. crypto exchanges started allowing XRP trading again.
However, the judge did agree with the SEC on one point: Ripple did break the law by selling XRP directly to people.
Finally, the SEC's leader, Gary Gensler, has hinted at possibly appealing this decision. He spoke about this at a Press Club DC lunch event, saying the agency is still thinking about the ruling.
