OpenSea Sends Security Warnings to Its API Users
OpenSea, a top digital art platform, warns users about a safety concern after Nansen, a data company, faces a security breach.
OpenSea, a leading platform for digital art (NFTs), has alerted users about a security issue. This comes after data company Nansen warned that some of its data might have been exposed due to a breach.
On September 22, Nansen said on X (like Twitter) that a company they work with had a security problem. This issue affected about 6.8% of Nansen's users. This company also works with big businesses, and it seems OpenSea might also have been affected.
A user named MatriXBT shared on X that OpenSea emailed its users about the risk. The email said some users' special codes (API keys) might be at risk. OpenSea told users:
Your special code might be used wrongly by others.
OpenSea asked everyone to stop using the old codes and get new ones. The old codes will stop working by October 2, 2023. They promised the new codes will work the same way as the old ones.
OpenSea hasn't talked publicly about this security issue yet. But many people in the crypto world are talking about it. someone said on X:
Data leaks like these raise questions about the security of cryptocurrency projects. OpenSea needs to work closely with suppliers and ensure that user personal information is as well-protected as possible.
Another person said OpenSea should be clear and quick to protect users.
OpenSea is very popular for buying and selling digital art. In August 2023, people traded more than $100 million on their platform.
