Football Star Ronaldinho Accused of Crypto Scam
Football star Ronaldinho might be in trouble over a possible crypto scam. He missed a court date and might even be arrested.
Football star Ronaldinho missed a court meeting because of bad weather, where he's accused of being part of a crypto scam.
The court in Porto Alegre, Brazil, wanted Ronaldinho, his brother Assis, and their friend Marcelo Lara to explain their company's actions. Their company, 18K Ronaldinho, might have tricked people with a fake crypto plan.
The company promised to give people up to 2% profit every day from crypto trading. Such big promises made officials think it was a scam.
Recently, officials have been looking more at crypto companies that promise big profits.
On July 13, Alex Mashinsky, head of a crypto company called Celsius, was arrested. He's accused of lying about how much money people could make and also tricking people to make more money for himself.
There's a chance that Ronaldinho might be arrested to make sure he goes to court. The officials say that being famous won't help him.
Last year, Ronaldinho was linked with another crypto project. He worked with a company called INFLUXO to sell special digital items called NFTs. Some people who bought these NFTs even got a chance to meet Ronaldinho in Dubai.
