Judge to check Sam Bankman-Fried's response to new evidence

Judge Lewis Kaplan wants the government to talk about how Bankman-Fried can see the new evidence. He also asked if the prosecutors should use this new information.

A judge will look into Sam Bankman-Fried's answer to new evidence from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) on Aug. 25. Bankman-Fried's lawyers say that 4 million pages of information were given just a short time before his trial on October 3.

On Aug. 26, Judge Kaplan asked the government to reply to the lawyer's letters about how Bankman-Fried can see the evidence. The judge also questioned if evidence given after July 1 should be used.

Bankman-Fried's lawyers said: "The Government gave us 4 million pages just yesterday. This is too much information too close to the trial date. The Government shouldn't use this new evidence in court."

On Aug. 30, Bankman-Fried's lawyers will talk about their side in a video call.

Bankman-Fried is said to have used other people's money for himself and for politics. He has 12 charges against him. These will be looked at in two trials in October 2023 and March 2024.

Earlier, Bankman-Fried said he did not do the wrong things he is accused of. His lawyers also want him to be treated better in prison. He has been in prison since Aug. 11.

His lawyers say he can only eat bread, peanut butter, and water because there's no vegan food in prison. They also say he hasn't gotten his medicine since he was put in jail.
