Simpsons episode mocks NFTs; Marge rescues Bart from the digital world, and NFT prices react.

The Simpsonsfeatured NFTs and blockchain in their latest Halloween special. The episode, called “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token,” jokes about NFTs being overvalued.

NFTs are unique digital assets that show who owns a piece of digital or real-world items. In the story, Marge goes on an adventure in the blockchain to save Bart, who has become an NFT, and Springfield's mayor decides to turn the city’s art into digital form. The show also pokes fun at famous NFTs, like Beeple and Bored Ape Yacht Club, and suggests other digital art isn’t worth much.

NFT expert Noah Bolanowski commented that the episode cleverly highlights art, showing famous NFTs as valuable, but others as not. He shared his thoughts on a social media platform.

The Simpsons has included crypto themes before. In 2020, they aired “Frinkcoin,” where Jim Parsons explains cryptocurrencies and blockchain. And in another episode, “The King of Nice,” Krusty the Clown loses his money on NFTs, which he jokingly calls “Non-funny TV shows.”

Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, has mocked crypto in other shows too, like in Futurama’s episode “How the West Was 101001.”

After the latest Simpsons episode, prices for Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs saw a tiny rise, according to data, but the value of ether, a type of cryptocurrency, fell slightly.
