Craig Wright Gets Slapped With $1 Million Fine
Craig Wright's lawsuit against Bitcoin Core developers over Bitcoin rights shifts as he gets slapped with a $1 Million fine and the trial rescheduled to February 5.
In the ongoing mystery of who created Bitcoin, Craig Wright's trial against Bitcoin Core developers is now set for February 5. Wright, claiming to be Bitcoin's creator Satoshi Nakamoto, is suing developers and big firms like Blockstream and Coinbase.
Wright accuses them of using his Bitcoin technology without permission. He's brought 97 new documents to support his claim, including files essential for Bitcoin's creation. But, the developers suspect these documents might be fake, challenging their authenticity.
The judge handling the case ordered Wright to pay £800,000 (about $1 million) as security for the developers' legal costs if he loses. Wright already paid £100,000 ($127,000) earlier. Plus, he must pay £65,000 ($82,000) for costs related to his Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Wright, who has ASD, asked for special trial conditions, like knowing questions in advance. However, the judge decided he could only use a screen and write his questions during the trial.
This case is important because it questions who controls Bitcoin and how its open-source nature works. Wright claims the developers have a partnership controlling Bitcoin, challenging its decentralized nature. Everyone in the cryptocurrency world is watching this case for its impact on intellectual property rights.
