Brazil Adopts Blockchain Based ID for Citizens
Brazil adopts blockchain for secure new digital IDs, aiming to enhance safety and simplify government services for over 214 million citizens.
Over 214 million Brazilians will soon get a new way of identifying who they are. The government said they will use blockchain, a very safe computer system, to make digital IDs.
First Steps in Rio de Janeiro and Two Other States
The states of Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, and Paraná will be the first to use this technology, created by Serpro, a big data company in Brazil. By November 6, all of Brazil should be using this new system for making ID documents.
Alexandre Amorim, who leads Serpro, said blockchain is the perfect technology for making safe digital IDs because it can't be easily changed or tricked. He said, “Using the b-Cadastros blockchain helps a lot in making the National Identity Card project safe and sure.”
The government believes that this new ID system is key to fighting big crime groups and making government work better together. It will also make getting services and managing records easier. Buenos Aires, a big city in Argentina, is doing something similar.
Brazil is also working on a CBDC now called Drex. The government wants to use it to help businesses get Capital more easily. Some people found that with Drex, a Central Authority can stop funds or make them smaller if needed.
