U.K. introduces new internet safety law, including rules for the growing metaverse, awaiting King Charles' approval.

U.K. lawmakers have made a new law for internet safety, which now includes the metaverse. The Online Safety Bill, started last year, saying companies must check if their users might see bad or illegal content, especially kids. These companies also need to find ways to lower these risks. This should make the online world safer and more free, according to an official statement.

As the metaverse becomes more popular, partly because of Facebook changed its name to Meta, U.K. leaders now believe it is important that this online safety law should also protect people in the virtual worlds.

Lord Stephen Parkinson, from the top part of Parliament and also a minister for Culture, Media, and Sport, said in July that the new law is ready for future technologies like the metaverse

Now, King Charles has to agree to this law. Once he does, it will start right away unless they pick a later time.
