Millions in Crypto Seized from Iranian Army
Israel Seizes Millions in Crypto Linked to Iranian Military, Hezbollah: Minister Reports
The Israeli government, according to an Associated Press report, has taken millions in cryptocurrency from Iranian military and Lebanon's Hezbollah group. Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, coordinated the action with the help of several Israeli agencies.
"This is the first event of this size," Gallant said, adding that this action effectively stops the flow of funds to these groups. He claimed that both the Iranian military and Hezbollah used digital currencies to support their activities.
The exact amount of seized cryptocurrency is still unknown, but it was reportedly linked to financing schemes for the Iranian military and Hezbollah. Iran's United Nations mission has not commented on this issue yet.
Previously, in May, Israeli authorities seized about 190 Binance accounts allegedly connected to terrorist groups such as Hamas and Daesh since 2021.
