Hacker Steals $630,000 From Unibot, Covers His Track with Tornado Cash
Unibot, a well-known Telegram trading tool, was hacked with $630,000 stolen. The hacker used Tornado Cash to cover their tracks.
A hacker stole money from Unibot, a popular Telegram trading tool. They moved the stolen amount, $630,000, using a system called Tornado Cash to hide their actions.
On Oct. 31, Unibot said on X(formerly Twitter) that their system had a problem, called a “token approval exploit.” Because of this, they had to stop their service for some time.
After the hack, the value of Unibot's own money, called the UNIBOT token, fell by over 30%. It dropped to $32.94 but later went up to $46.02.
How was Unibot attacked?
The Unibot team didn't say how much money was stolen. But a company that looks at crypto safety, Cyvers Alerts, believes the hacker took about 345 Ethereum (ETH), which is like $630,000. The main problem seems to be a missing check in their system that allowed the hacker to take money. But Unibot says users' private keys and money storages are safe. They will tell more after they finish looking into the problem.
Where did the stolen money go?
Data shows that the hacker changed all the stolen digital money into Ethereum on online exchanges like Uniswap and 1inch. After this, the hacker used Tornado Cash to hide their actions. Now, the hacker's digital wallet only has $69 left.
