Circle Responds to Rumors of Being Connected to Terrorists and Justin Sun
Circle addresses Senators Warren and Brown, denying links to Justin Sun and Hamas, and reaffirms commitment to legal compliance.
Circle, the company behind USDC, responded to Senator Elizabeth Warren and Chairman Sherrod Brown, making its stance clear about banking Justin Sun and funding Hamas. This was a reply to a Nov. 9 letter from the Campaign for Accountability, which accused Circle of not stopping illegal financial activities.
The Campaign's letter, written by Michelle Kuppersmith, claimed that based on various reports Circle had connections with Justin Sun. However, Circle responded firmly stating that they do not have any accounts related to Sun or his entities.
Circle further mentioned that they closed accounts linked to Sun in February 2023. Sun faced a lawsuit in March by the US Securities and Exchange Commission for alleged illegal securities sales.
Senators Warren and Brown had earlier urged the Biden Administration to tackle crypto-financed terrorism. This followed a Wall Street Journal report about Hamas using crypto, but data provider Elliptic refuted these claims, citing no evidence.
Circle also explained that they are ready to discuss these issues with Warren and Brown, showing their commitment to legal compliance.
