Thailand's government plans to give people money through digital wallets, using blockchain to ensure safety and boost local business.

Thailand’s new prime minister plans to give citizens money using blockchain and digital wallets.

The Bangkok Post shared that the new government, Pheu Thai, will use a digital system to give their promised cash help.

Thailand's Blockchain Move

The government will give 10,000 Thai baht (about $US280) to citizens using blockchain. This means the money is safe and easy to track.

People will get a digital wallet to spend the money. They can use it for six months in shops close to their home. This plan aims to help people use digital money more and boost local business.

By doing this, the government hopes to add $56 billion to the economy and help it grow. Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat believes it will help the country's income grow by 5% in 2024.

But, some people don't like this idea. They are worried about where the money will come from. They think it will cost a lot of taxpayer money.

Also, this new government did not win the last election. The powerful military chose them.

This move might be a practice run for Thailand’s own digital money called CBDC. In June, Thailand’s bank worked with three companies to test this digital money.

Thailand is also making a digital ID for everyone. This ID might be connected to the digital wallets in the future.

Some people are worried that this new digital money will give the government too much control and take away people's privacy.

Right now, it's not sure how the government will make sure people spend the money the right way.
