Rocket Pool’s X Account Hacked: Sparking Confusion Among Users
Fake hack warnings on Rocket Pool's X account cause confusion; users are advised to ignore them as the issue is being addressed.
Users on X (formerly Twitter) are reporting that warnings about Rocket Pool being hacked might be fake, created by hackers themselves. Six warning posts appeared on Rocket Pool's X account from 6:30 pm UTC, removed at 7:05 pm, but reappeared soon after.
The messages on Rocket Pool's X account warned of a vulnerability in their system, urging users to move their assets for safety. These messages, including ones about 'fake deposit attacks,' might not be genuine. There were also other inappropriate posts on the account.
While this was happening, Rocket Pool was telling people on other social media to ignore these X messages. These official warnings were shared widely on X.
Rocket Pool is a major Ethereum DApp, ranked fifth by DefiLlama, with $2.9 billion locked in. It started in November 2021. A similar incident occurred on Jan. 9 when the SEC's X account was hacked, falsely announcing Bitcoin ETF approvals.
Although Efforts are being made to solve this issue, presently the suspicious posts are still on the Rocket Pool X page.
