What is Ondo?
Ondo (ONDO) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project designed to enhance accessibility to structured financial products within the blockchain ecosystem. Launched in 2021, Ondo aims to provide users with innovative solutions for yield generation and risk management through its decentralized platform. Operating primarily on the Ethereum blockchain, Ondo leverages smart contracts to facilitate the creation and management of various financial instruments, such as liquidity vaults that cater to different risk appetites and return profiles. The native token, ONDO, plays a crucial role in the platform's ecosystem, serving purposes such as governance, where token holders can participate in decision-making processes regarding protocol upgrades and changes. Ondo distinguishes itself with its focus on structured financial products, offering a unique approach to DeFi that combines traditional financial concepts with blockchain technology. This positions Ondo as a significant player in the DeFi space, catering to both retail and institutional investors seeking diversified and risk-adjusted returns.
When and how did Ondo start?
Ondo originated in April 2021 when it was founded by a team led by Nathan Allman, a former employee of Goldman Sachs. The project aimed to provide structured financial products in the DeFi space. Ondo's initial development focused on creating a platform that allowed users to invest in various yield-generating strategies with different risk-return profiles. The project gained early traction by securing a seed funding round in April 2021, which was instrumental in accelerating its development. Ondo launched its platform on Ethereum, leveraging the blockchain's robust ecosystem to offer its financial products. The platform's development was marked by the release of its whitepaper, which laid out the technical and economic framework for its operations. Ondo's token distribution model included a strategic approach to ensure wide accessibility and engagement within the DeFi community. These foundational steps set the stage for Ondo's ongoing growth and expansion within the decentralized finance landscape.

This incentivizes participation and helps maintain the integrity of the system. For developers, Ondo provides tools and resources to build decentralized applications (dApps) and integrate Ondo's features into their projects. The ecosystem supports a range of wallets and platforms that facilitate transactions and interactions using ONDO tokens. These applications enable users to engage with various decentralized finance (DeFi) services, enhancing the overall utility of the token within the Ondo network.
Is Ondo still active or relevant?
As of the latest available data, Ondo remains active and relevant in the crypto space. The project has shown continued development, with recent updates and upgrades announced in 2023. Ondo focuses on providing structured financial products within the DeFi ecosystem, which keeps it significant in the decentralized finance sector. The project maintains integrations across various platforms and has been listed on multiple exchanges, ensuring liquidity and accessibility for users. Ondo's active governance, with recent proposals and community votes, further highlights its engagement and ongoing relevance. These factors collectively support Ondo's position as an active participant in the DeFi landscape.
Who is Ondo designed for?
Ondo is designed for institutional investors and individual participants seeking structured financial products and yield opportunities within the crypto ecosystem. It enables these users to access diversified investment strategies and risk-managed returns. Ondo provides tools and resources such as investment vehicles and financial products tailored for various risk appetites, allowing users to participate in decentralized finance with greater confidence and security. Secondary participants, including liquidity providers and asset managers, engage with Ondo through liquidity pools and structured finance offerings, contributing to the platform's robustness and liquidity. These participants help facilitate the efficient functioning of Ondo's financial products, ensuring a dynamic and responsive ecosystem.
How is Ondo secured?
Ondo uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism in which validators confirm transactions and maintain network integrity. Validators are required to hold and stake a certain amount of the network’s native tokens to participate in the consensus process. This staking model not only secures the network but also aligns incentives by rewarding validators with transaction fees and newly minted tokens. To ensure data integrity and authentication, Ondo employs cryptographic techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA). The network incorporates slashing penalties to discourage malicious behavior, where validators can lose a portion of their staked tokens if they act dishonestly or fail to perform their duties. Additional security measures include regular audits and a robust governance framework, which enhances the network's resilience and trustworthiness.
Has Ondo faced any controversy or risks?
Ondo has faced certain risks primarily related to the broader blockchain ecosystem. As of the latest available information, there have been no significant security breaches or exploits directly impacting Ondo. However, like many projects in the DeFi space, it is exposed to technical risks such as smart contract vulnerabilities and market risks due to price volatility. The Ondo team actively addresses potential risks by implementing rigorous security audits and maintaining transparency in their operations. They engage with third-party auditors to review their smart contracts and have established a bug bounty program to incentivize the discovery and reporting of any vulnerabilities. Regulatory challenges are an ongoing concern for most DeFi projects, including Ondo. The project remains vigilant in monitoring regulatory developments and adapting its compliance measures accordingly. By focusing on robust security practices and proactive risk management, Ondo aims to mitigate potential threats and ensure the safety and reliability of its platform.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
