By enabling members to have a direct say in project direction and funding, Moon DAO aims to create a more inclusive and participatory environment in the rapidly evolving world of cryptocurrency.
When and how did Moon DAO start?
Moon DAO originated in March 2021 when a group of blockchain enthusiasts and developers released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and goals. The project aimed to create a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on community-driven initiatives and governance. Following the whitepaper's publication, Moon DAO launched its testnet in June 2021, allowing users to interact with the platform and provide feedback before the mainnet release. The mainnet was officially launched in September 2021, marking the project's transition to full operational status. Early development efforts concentrated on establishing a robust governance framework and integrating community feedback into the platform's features. The initial distribution of the Moon DAO token occurred through a fair launch model in October 2021, enabling a wide range of participants to acquire tokens without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods. These foundational steps set the stage for Moon DAO's growth and the establishment of its ecosystem.

Who is Moon DAO designed for?
Moon DAO is designed for developers and users interested in decentralized governance and community-driven projects, enabling them to participate in decision-making processes and contribute to the ecosystem's growth. It provides tools and resources such as governance frameworks and community engagement platforms to support development and active participation. Secondary participants, including validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, allowing them to earn rewards and influence the direction of the DAO. This structure fosters a collaborative environment where all participants can contribute to the project's objectives while benefiting from the shared success of the community. By focusing on inclusivity and accessibility, Moon DAO aims to empower a diverse range of users to take part in the evolving landscape of decentralized finance and governance.
How is Moon DAO secured?
Moon DAO employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. Validators are selected based on the amount of cryptocurrency they stake, which incentivizes them to act honestly, as their staked assets are at risk. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. To align participant incentives, Moon DAO incorporates staking rewards for validators, which are distributed based on their performance and the amount staked. Additionally, the network implements slashing penalties for malicious behavior or failure to validate transactions correctly, further discouraging dishonest actions. Moon DAO also emphasizes security through regular audits and a robust governance framework, which includes community participation in decision-making processes. This multi-faceted approach to security, combined with client diversity, enhances the resilience of the network against potential attacks and vulnerabilities.
Has Moon DAO faced any controversy or risks?
Moon DAO has faced some risks primarily related to governance and community engagement. In early 2023, there were reports of disputes within the community regarding decision-making processes and the allocation of funds, which raised concerns about the effectiveness of its decentralized governance model. The team responded by implementing a more structured governance framework, allowing for clearer voting mechanisms and increased transparency in fund management. Additionally, the project has acknowledged potential technical risks associated with smart contract vulnerabilities, which are common in decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. To address these concerns, Moon DAO has engaged third-party auditors to conduct security assessments and has established a bug bounty program to incentivize the community to report vulnerabilities. Ongoing risks include market volatility and regulatory scrutiny, which are inherent to the cryptocurrency space. The team continues to mitigate these risks through regular updates, community engagement initiatives, and adherence to best practices in security and governance.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
