This utility enhances the overall functionality of the Mode platform, making it a versatile tool for users. Mode stands out for its focus on integrating traditional finance with cryptocurrency, aiming to bridge the gap between these two worlds. This unique approach positions it as a significant player in the evolving landscape of digital finance, catering to both crypto enthusiasts and traditional users looking to explore the benefits of blockchain technology.
When and how did Mode start?
Mode originated in October 2020 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in December 2020, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with its features and functionalities. Following the successful testnet phase, Mode transitioned to its mainnet launch in March 2021, marking its official entry into the market. Early development focused on creating a user-friendly platform that integrates traditional finance with cryptocurrency, aiming to simplify the user experience for both new and experienced users. The initial distribution of Mode tokens occurred through a fair launch model in April 2021, which allowed participants to acquire tokens without the typical constraints of an ICO or IEO. These foundational steps established the groundwork for Mode's growth and the development of its ecosystem.

Who is Mode designed for?
Mode is designed for consumers and institutions, enabling them to engage with cryptocurrency in a user-friendly manner. It provides tools and resources, including a mobile wallet and payment solutions, to facilitate seamless transactions and management of digital assets. The platform aims to simplify the process of buying, selling, and using cryptocurrencies, making it accessible to a broader audience. Secondary participants, such as developers and creators, can engage with Mode through its APIs and SDKs, allowing them to build applications and services that integrate with the Mode ecosystem. This fosters innovation and enhances the overall functionality of the platform, contributing to a more robust cryptocurrency environment. By catering to both primary and secondary user groups, Mode supports the growth and adoption of digital currencies while addressing the diverse needs of its users.
How is Mode secured?
Mode employs a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators confirm transactions and maintain the integrity of the network. In this model, participants are required to stake a certain amount of Mode tokens to become validators, which incentivizes them to act honestly, as their staked assets are at risk. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, including elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. To align incentives, Mode offers staking rewards to validators for their participation in the network, while also implementing slashing penalties for any malicious behavior or failure to validate transactions correctly. This dual approach helps maintain a secure and trustworthy environment for all participants. Additionally, Mode incorporates regular audits and governance processes to enhance security and resilience. These measures ensure that the network can adapt to potential vulnerabilities and maintain operational integrity, further solidifying its security framework.
Has Mode faced any controversy or risks?
Mode has faced regulatory scrutiny, particularly regarding compliance with financial regulations in various jurisdictions. In 2021, the project was involved in discussions with regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) requirements. The team responded proactively by enhancing their compliance framework and implementing stricter user verification processes. Additionally, Mode has encountered technical risks associated with the security of its platform. In response to potential vulnerabilities, the team has conducted regular security audits and implemented a bug bounty program to incentivize external security researchers to identify and report issues. Ongoing risks for Mode include market volatility and the evolving regulatory landscape, which are common challenges in the cryptocurrency sector. The team continues to mitigate these risks through transparent communication with users, adherence to best practices in security, and ongoing updates to their compliance measures.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
