What is H2O Dao?
H2O Dao (H2O) is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on the development and governance of decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. Launched in 2021, H2O Dao aims to create a sustainable ecosystem for liquidity and yield generation in the DeFi space. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing smart contracts to facilitate various financial services, including liquidity provision and staking. Its native token, H2O, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including governance, where holders can vote on proposals, and as a utility token for transaction fees and rewards. H2O Dao stands out for its emphasis on community-driven governance and innovative liquidity solutions, positioning it as a significant player in the DeFi landscape. By enabling users to participate actively in decision-making processes and providing tools for efficient capital allocation, H2O Dao seeks to enhance user engagement and promote sustainable growth within the DeFi sector.
When and how did H2O Dao start?
H2O Dao originated in October 2021 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in December 2021, allowing developers and early adopters to engage with the platform and provide feedback. Following the successful testing phase, H2O Dao transitioned to its mainnet launch in March 2022, marking its official entry into the decentralized finance ecosystem. Early development focused on creating a robust decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that facilitates governance and decision-making within the H2O ecosystem. The initial distribution of H2O tokens occurred through a fair launch model in April 2022, which aimed to ensure equitable access for participants. These foundational steps established H2O Dao's infrastructure and set the stage for its growth and community engagement in the evolving DeFi landscape.

These indicators support H2O Dao's continued relevance within the DeFi sector, demonstrating its commitment to evolving and adapting to the needs of its community.
Who is H2O Dao designed for?
H2O Dao is designed for developers and users within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, enabling them to participate in governance and liquidity management. It provides essential tools and resources, including APIs and SDKs, to facilitate the integration and development of applications on its platform. Primary users, such as developers, can leverage H2O Dao to create innovative financial products and services, while users benefit from the ability to engage in liquidity provision and governance decisions. The platform aims to empower individuals and teams to contribute to a more decentralized financial landscape. Secondary participants, including validators and liquidity providers, engage through staking and governance mechanisms, which help maintain the network's integrity and enhance its functionality. By fostering collaboration among these groups, H2O Dao aims to build a robust ecosystem that supports a diverse range of financial activities and promotes community-driven growth.
How is H2O Dao secured?
H2O Dao employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to propose and validate new blocks based on the amount of H2O tokens they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This staking process not only secures the network but also incentivizes participants to act honestly, as they have a financial stake in the system. The protocol utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, including Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography safeguards user transactions and protects against unauthorized access. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network. Additionally, a slashing mechanism is in place to penalize malicious behavior or validator downtime, further enhancing network security. H2O Dao also incorporates governance processes and regular audits to ensure transparency and resilience, contributing to the overall security of the ecosystem.
Has H2O Dao faced any controversy or risks?
H2O Dao has faced risks primarily related to governance and technical vulnerabilities. In early 2023, the project encountered a significant incident involving a smart contract exploit that resulted in the loss of funds. The team responded promptly by pausing affected contracts and conducting a thorough audit to identify vulnerabilities. They implemented a patch to address the exploit and initiated a reimbursement program for impacted users. Additionally, H2O Dao has navigated community disputes regarding governance decisions, particularly around voting mechanisms and proposal approvals. The team has worked to enhance transparency and community engagement through regular updates and open forums for discussion. Ongoing risks for H2O Dao include market volatility, regulatory scrutiny, and potential technical issues inherent in decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. To mitigate these risks, the team emphasizes robust development practices, regular security audits, and a proactive approach to community governance, ensuring that stakeholders are informed and involved in decision-making processes.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
