Balance Network (BLN)
What is Balance Network?
Balance Network (BLN) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project launched in 2020. It was created to facilitate seamless and efficient trading of digital assets while providing users with enhanced liquidity and reduced transaction costs. The project operates on a Layer 2 scaling solution, utilizing Ethereum's blockchain to enable faster and cheaper transactions compared to traditional Layer 1 networks. The native token, BLN, serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, including governance, staking, and as a medium for transaction fees. Users can stake BLN tokens to earn rewards and participate in decision-making processes regarding the platform's development and governance. Balance Network stands out for its innovative approach to liquidity provision and its focus on user-friendly interfaces, positioning it as a significant player in the DeFi space. By addressing common challenges in decentralized trading, such as high fees and slow transaction times, Balance Network aims to enhance the overall user experience in the cryptocurrency market.
When and how did Balance Network start?
Balance Network originated in September 2020 when the founding team released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project launched its testnet in December 2020, allowing developers and early adopters to experiment with its features and functionalities. Following the successful testing phase, Balance Network transitioned to its mainnet launch in March 2021, marking its official entry into the blockchain ecosystem. Early development focused on creating a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that aimed to enhance user experience and accessibility. The initial distribution of the Balance token occurred through a fair launch model in April 2021, which allowed community members to participate without the constraints of traditional fundraising methods. These foundational steps established the groundwork for Balance Network's growth and its subsequent integration into the broader DeFi landscape.
What’s coming up for Balance Network?
According to official updates, Balance Network is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing scalability and performance, scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to improve user experience and transaction efficiency. Additionally, Balance Network is targeting the integration of several key partnerships throughout 2024, which are expected to expand its ecosystem and enhance interoperability with other blockchain platforms. These initiatives aim to bolster the network's overall functionality and user engagement. Progress on these milestones will be tracked through their official communication channels and roadmap updates.

Who is Balance Network designed for?
Balance Network is designed for developers and consumers, enabling them to create and utilize decentralized applications (dApps) and services. It provides essential tools and resources, including software development kits (SDKs) and application programming interfaces (APIs), to facilitate the development and integration of blockchain solutions. Primary users, such as developers, can leverage these resources to build innovative applications that enhance user experiences and streamline processes. Consumers benefit from the network's capabilities by accessing a range of decentralized financial services and applications that promote transparency and efficiency. Secondary participants, including validators and liquidity providers, engage with the network through staking and governance mechanisms, contributing to the overall security and functionality of the ecosystem. This collaborative environment fosters a robust community that supports the growth and sustainability of Balance Network, aligning with the project’s vision of creating a more accessible and efficient blockchain landscape.
How is Balance Network secured?
Balance Network employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to propose and validate new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This incentivizes participants to act honestly, as their staked assets can be slashed or penalized for malicious behavior. The network utilizes advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography safeguards transactions against unauthorized access and tampering. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network, thereby encouraging active engagement. Additionally, the network implements slashing mechanisms to deter dishonest actions, ensuring that validators maintain a high standard of conduct. To further enhance security, Balance Network undergoes regular audits and maintains governance processes that involve community participation, contributing to its overall resilience and trustworthiness.
Has Balance Network faced any controversy or risks?
Balance Network has faced risks primarily related to the security of its smart contracts and the potential for exploits, which are common concerns in decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. In early 2023, the platform experienced a vulnerability that could have allowed unauthorized access to user funds. The team promptly addressed this issue by implementing a patch to the affected smart contracts and conducting a thorough audit to ensure the integrity of the system. Additionally, Balance Network has navigated regulatory scrutiny, particularly concerning compliance with evolving financial regulations in various jurisdictions. The team has actively engaged with legal experts to align their operations with regulatory requirements, aiming to mitigate potential legal risks. Ongoing risks for Balance Network include market volatility and the inherent technical challenges associated with DeFi platforms, such as potential bugs or exploits. To address these risks, the project maintains a proactive approach through regular audits, community engagement, and transparency in its development practices, ensuring that users are informed and protected.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).

Historical Market Depth is showing the history of liquidity from the markets for a given asset. It’s a measure of combined liquidity from all integrated markets on the coinpaprika’s market depth module.
