Vitalik Buterin's X Account Hacked
Ethereum's co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, faced a big theft on his X account. Thieves took $700,000 in digital money and art. Stay cautious online!
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, had his X (like Twitter) account hacked last night. Thieves stole $700,000 in digital money and special digital art (NFTs) using his account.
Hackers tricked people by advertising a fake digital art offer with a time limit. People who clicked on this fake offer lost their digital money and art. They stole a very valuable piece of art worth $250,000 and lots of other digital money.
It looks like the hacker used a tool named Pink for the theft. This tool helps in stealing digital art. Some bad people sell these stealing tools, and others use them. Pink has been used for many big thefts this year, even on famous people's X accounts.
Hackers often pretend to be reporters from digital money news groups. They trick people into saving dangerous links. One way to stay safe is by keeping digital art and big amounts of digital money in a very safe place, called cold storage. There are new tools to help keep digital art safe too.
Many famous digital money people and groups have faced such thefts on X before, like the Azuki art project and Aptos Foundation.
