Telegram's CEO reveals plans to turn stickers and emojis into NFTs on TON blockchain

At the Token2049 event in Dubai, Telegram's CEO, Pavel Durov, unveiled plans to convert stickers and emojis into non-fungible tokens (NFTs) using The Open Network (TON) blockchain.

This development allows users to own and monetize these digital assets.

Durov highlighted Telegram's successful experience with blockchain, including the tokenization of usernames that generated $350 million in sales, with creators keeping 95% of the earnings.

He emphasized the potential for NFTs integrated into everyday communication to go viral, using the example of a "smoking duck" sticker that became a cultural hit.

Durov plans to extend tokenization to emojis and possibly entire sets of stickers and emojis, transforming them into meme coins. He noted that stickers are shared over 700 billion times monthly on Telegram, showcasing their popularity and potential for revenue.

The CEO explained that the TON blockchain's scalability is crucial for handling the massive number of transactions required by this project.

He also discussed Telegram's decentralized model, which includes ad revenue sharing where channels receive 50% of the revenue, and a forthcoming model that will give creators 70% of the revenue from tips.

Through these initiatives, Telegram is pushing the boundaries of how digital assets are used and valued, promoting a more decentralized approach that benefits content creators.
