Post-halving, Bitcoin's reduced supply could signal major price surges, experts suggest

The recently completed fourth Bitcoin halving has sparked significant interest among investors eager to see its impact on Bitcoin's price and influence over other cryptocurrencies. Given Bitcoin's dominant position, its fluctuations are crucial for the entire crypto market.

Matt Hougan, CIO of Bitwise Asset Management, sees the halving as an opportunity for investors.

On CNBC Squawk Box, he suggested that Bitcoin's price will likely surge in the coming year, drawing on patterns observed after previous halvings.

He highlighted the reduced Bitcoin supply resulting from the halving as a primary factor for potential price increases.

Hougan also discussed Bitcoin's role as a store of value amid global instability, particularly in geopolitically tense regions.

He believes Bitcoin has effectively shielded investors from inflation post-COVID and will continue to serve as a reliable safeguard against global disruptions.

The halving has reduced the mining reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, historically increasing the value of existing bitcoins.

After the 2020 halving, Bitcoin's price initially stabilized, then skyrocketed by 458%. If similar patterns follow, Bitcoin's price could rise to around $345,000 by early 2025.

Bitcoin's performance before the halving was strong, with a more than 130% increase over the past year.

Continuing this trend could push Bitcoin's price to about $150,000 by mid-2025, close to Anthony Scaramucci's prediction of at least $170,000 by the end of this market cycle.

These insights offer a positive outlook for Bitcoin, suggesting it could maintain its pivotal role in the crypto market and potentially achieve substantial growth in the coming years. Investors and analysts will closely monitor the market as it adapts to the reduced supply and evaluates Bitcoin's potential as a long-term investment.
