X's new payments feature, now in development, raises speculation about potential Dogecoin integration, fueled by Elon Musk's support for the meme coin.

The social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a new payments feature in its latest software update, raising questions about the potential inclusion of Dogecoin when it launches. Swakshan, an X user known for leaking upcoming app features, revealed that the payments feature is now in development on X. This indicates that the platform is advancing with its plan to introduce a payment service, possibly by the end of the year. Last year, Elon Musk, the owner of X, shared his vision of transforming X into an "everything app," with the payment service being a key element. As part of this strategy, X has been acquiring money-transmitting licenses across the United States.

So far, X has obtained licenses in 35 states, with North Dakota being the most recent addition. The platform needs licenses from 15 more states before launching the payment feature nationwide, but it's unclear how quickly these licenses will be acquired. The launch of X's payments feature has drawn interest from the crypto community, particularly regarding the possibility of Dogecoin being included. Musk's well-known support for the meme coin has led many to believe Dogecoin might be integrated into X's payment service. However, Musk has not officially confirmed this integration. Still, the idea is plausible, as Musk has previously discussed using Dogecoin for payment services.

Swakshan's analysis of the X payments development code shows no direct mention of Dogecoin. However, a web URL (/i/payments/verify-payment-method) indicates that multiple payment methods will be available, suggesting that Dogecoin could be among them. In the absence of official confirmation, the Dogecoin community awaits further announcements from X about Dogecoin's inclusion as a payment method. Mishaboar, a notable Dogecoin influencer, recently reminded followers that no official confirmation exists beyond rumors.

Meanwhile, Musk recently expressed his affection for Dogecoin, stating he has a "soft spot" for the meme coin due to his love for dogs and memes. He also mentioned having no strong feelings toward Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, indicating Dogecoin could be the only crypto integrated into the X payment service. As X continues developing its payment service, Dogecoin's inclusion remains a key point of interest. Musk's public support for Dogecoin fuels speculation that it could be part of the new payment system. Obtaining additional state licenses will be crucial for launching the service.

For now, the crypto community and Dogecoin enthusiasts must wait for more information from X. Dogecoin's integration could significantly boost its adoption and help realize Musk's vision of creating a versatile payment service within X. Introducing a payment feature is a significant step for X as it seeks to diversify its offerings and enhance user engagement. As the platform nears the launch of its payment service, anticipation around Dogecoin continues to grow, highlighting its potential impact on the cryptocurrency market and social media landscape.
