Meme (MEME)
What is Meme?
Meme (MEME) is a cryptocurrency project launched in 2021, designed to leverage the cultural phenomenon of memes within the blockchain space. The primary purpose of Meme is to create a community-driven platform that allows users to engage with and create meme-based content while facilitating transactions and interactions through its native token. The project operates on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing the ERC-20 token standard, which enables smart contracts and decentralized applications. The MEME token serves multiple roles within the ecosystem, including governance, where holders can participate in decision-making processes, and as a medium of exchange for transactions within the platform. Meme distinguishes itself through its unique integration of meme culture into the cryptocurrency landscape, fostering a vibrant community that encourages creativity and collaboration. This positioning not only enhances user engagement but also promotes the broader adoption of cryptocurrency by appealing to a diverse audience interested in both digital art and finance.
When and how did Meme start?
Meme originated in April 2021 when a team of developers released its whitepaper, outlining the project's vision and technical framework. The project aimed to leverage the growing popularity of meme culture within the cryptocurrency space. Following the whitepaper release, the testnet was launched in June 2021, allowing early adopters to experiment with the platform's features and functionalities. The mainnet launch occurred in September 2021, marking the project's transition to a fully operational blockchain. Early development focused on creating a user-friendly ecosystem that integrated meme-based content and community engagement. The initial distribution of the Meme token took place through a fair launch model in October 2021, ensuring that the community had equitable access to the tokens without the influence of traditional fundraising methods like ICOs or IEOs. These foundational steps set the stage for Meme's growth and its role in the evolving landscape of meme-inspired cryptocurrencies.
What’s coming up for Meme?
According to official updates, Meme is preparing for a significant protocol upgrade aimed at enhancing scalability and user experience, scheduled for Q1 2024. This upgrade will introduce new features designed to improve transaction speeds and reduce fees, making the platform more accessible to users. Additionally, Meme is planning to launch a new community governance initiative in Q2 2024, allowing token holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding future developments and project direction. Furthermore, the team is actively pursuing partnerships with various decentralized applications to expand its ecosystem, with several integrations expected to be announced in the coming months. The development team is currently focusing on enhancing user experience and expanding the platform's utility within the meme culture ecosystem. Additionally, Meme has maintained its presence across various trading venues, with consistent trading volume indicating ongoing market interest. The project has also established partnerships with several social media platforms, allowing for seamless integration of meme-related functionalities, which bolsters its relevance in the broader cryptocurrency landscape. These indicators, including active governance participation and strategic integrations, support Meme's continued significance within the meme and entertainment sectors, demonstrating that it is still a relevant player in the crypto space.
Who is Meme designed for?
Meme is designed for a diverse audience, primarily targeting consumers and creators who engage with meme culture and digital content. It enables them to participate in a community-driven ecosystem where they can create, share, and monetize memes. The platform provides various tools and resources, including user-friendly wallets and APIs, to facilitate seamless interaction and content creation. Secondary participants, such as developers and validators, also play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Developers can leverage SDKs and documentation to build applications that enhance user experience and engagement. Validators contribute to the network's security and integrity, ensuring that transactions and content are reliable and trustworthy. This collaborative environment fosters creativity and innovation, allowing all participants to benefit from the growing popularity of meme culture in the digital landscape.
How is Meme secured?
Meme utilizes a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, where validators are responsible for confirming transactions and maintaining the integrity of the network. In this model, validators are selected to propose and validate new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral. This incentivizes participants to act honestly, as their staked assets can be slashed or penalized for malicious behavior. The network employs advanced cryptographic techniques, such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), to ensure secure authentication and data integrity. This cryptography protects against unauthorized access and ensures that transactions are verifiable and tamper-proof. Incentive alignment is achieved through staking rewards, which are distributed to validators for their participation in the network. This reward system encourages active engagement and long-term commitment to the network's health. Additionally, governance mechanisms allow stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes, further enhancing the network's resilience. Regular audits and a focus on client diversity also contribute to the overall security and robustness of the Meme ecosystem.
Has Meme faced any controversy or risks?
Meme has faced several controversies and risks primarily related to community governance and market volatility. In early 2023, the project encountered a significant governance dispute when a faction of the community disagreed on proposed changes to the tokenomics, leading to a temporary fork of the project. The team addressed this by organizing a community vote to establish a consensus on the direction of the project, which helped to unify the community and restore confidence. Additionally, Meme has been subject to market manipulation risks, common in meme-based cryptocurrencies, where sudden price surges and drops can occur due to social media trends. To mitigate these risks, the team has implemented measures such as regular audits and transparency reports to keep the community informed about market activities and project developments. Ongoing risks include regulatory scrutiny, as meme coins often attract attention from regulators due to their speculative nature. The team is actively working on compliance measures to navigate these challenges while maintaining transparency and community engagement.

What is Market depth?
Market depth is a metric, which is showing the real liquidity of the markets. Due to rampant wash-trading and fake activity - volume currently isn't the most reliable indicator in the crypto space.
What is it measuring?
It's measuring 1% or 10% section of the order book from the midpoint price (1%/10% of the buy orders, and 1%/10% of the sell orders).

Why it is important to use only 1% or 10%?
It's important, because measurement of the whole order book is going to give false results due to extreme values, which can make false illusion of liquidity for a given market.
How to use it?
By default Market depth is showing the most liquid markets sorted by Combined Orders (which is a sum of buy and sell orders). This way it provides the most interesting information already. Left (green) side of the market depth bar is showing how many buy orders are open, and right (red) side of the bar is showing how many sell orders are open (both can be recalculated to BTC, ETH or any fiat we have available on the site).

Confidence
Due to rampant malicious practices in the crypto exchanges environment, we have introduced in 2019 and 2020 new ways of evaluating exchanges and one of them is - Confidence. Because it's a new metric - it's essential to know how it works.
Confidence is weighted based on 3 principles:
Based on the liquidity from order books (75%) - including overall liquidity and market depth/volume ratio, volumes included, if exchange is low volume (below 2M USD volume 24h)
Based on web traffic (20%) - using Alexa rank as a main indicator of site popularity
Based on regulation (5%) - researching and evaluating licensing for exchange - by respective institutions
Adding all of these subscores give overall main result - Confidence
Confidence is mainly based on liquidity, because it's the most important aspect of cryptocurrency exchanges. Without liquidity there is no trading, illiquid markets tend to collapse in the long term. Besides liquidity - there is also an additional factor in calculation of score - market depth/volume ratio. If volume is huge (especially when it’s growing much faster than liquidity), and market depth seems to not keep pace with - it's reducing overall score. Exchanges that keep market makers liquidity with expanding volume are those that keep all ratios in-tact and have overall score above 75-80% (it means that they have all liquidity ratios above minimum requirements, high web traffic participation, and are often regulated).
