Trump Media Abandons Its Crypto.com CRO Treasury Bet as Deals Unwind

Key facts

  • Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville ended plans for a publicly traded CRO treasury company.
  • Trump Media keeps the roughly $105 million in CRO it bought in September 2025.
  • CRO fell about 8% over 24 hours after the announcement.

Trump Media terminates its CRO treasury deal with Crypto.com

Trump Media Group, the company behind Truth Social and traded under the ticker DJT, said on 7 August 2026 that it agreed with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp to terminate plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy. The proposed publicly traded company would have accumulated and staked Crypto.com's CRO token. It would have raised money through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), then used the proceeds to buy and hold CRO. The three parties first announced the combination in August 2025, during a wave of corporate digital asset treasury deals. Media reports valued the proposed vehicle at about $6.4 billion when it was announced.

The September 2025 CRO purchase stays on the books

The termination does not reverse Trump Media's existing CRO position. The company acquired about 684.4 million CRO, valued near $105 million, in a September 2025 transaction with Crypto.com. Trump Media received those tokens directly from Crypto.com rather than buying them on the open market. That holding stays on the company's balance sheet, separate from the scrapped treasury vehicle.

Both firms scrap ETF and prediction market plans

The two companies also ended related projects tied to the partnership. Crypto.com will no longer service a set of planned exchange-traded funds (ETFs) linked to Yorkville America. Trump Media scaled back plans for Crypto.com-powered prediction markets built into Truth Social. The prediction market feature had been planned inside the Truth Social app. Yorkville America said its existing and future ETF plans remain unchanged.

The digital asset treasury boom has cooled

Trump Media Group CRO Strategy was one of many corporate vehicles announced in 2025 to hold a single crypto token as a treasury asset. Many such companies now trade below the value of their holdings, and new deals have slowed. The treasury model let companies raise stock-market money to buy crypto, but investor demand has since fallen. Interim chief executive Kevin McGurn said the market for these treasury companies had grown crowded, which made a split logical for both sides. He said Trump Media is refocusing on its media and data-licensing business. The company also plans to complete a merger with fusion-energy firm TAE Technologies before the end of 2026.

CRO price falls after the termination news

CRO traded at $0.0489 at the time of publication, down 8.2% over the prior 24 hours versus the previous close (CoinPaprika, 8 August 2026). The token's market value stood near $2.31 billion. Over the past seven days, CRO fell about 11%. Twenty-four-hour trading volume jumped more than eightfold over the same period (CoinPaprika, 8 August 2026). The token trades far below its 2021 record high near $0.96 (CoinPaprika, 8 August 2026).

Trump Media keeps a large bitcoin treasury

Trump Media held 9,542 bitcoin (BTC) as of the second quarter, according to CoinDesk. Earlier in the week, Trump Media moved 2,628 BTC, worth about $165 million, to addresses associated with Crypto.com, according to CoinDesk. That position and the direct CRO holding now form the company's main crypto exposure. The moves end most of the crypto expansion Trump Media announced in 2025.
