Saga launches Metropolis.lol, a groundbreaking Layer-1 blockchain for AI agents, blending blockchain and AI to power decentralized ecosystems.

Saga has unveiled its latest project, Metropolis.lol, a decentralized Layer-1 blockchain designed specifically for AI agents. This innovative platform combines blockchain and AI technology to enable scalability and growth. Collaborating with Virtuals Protocol, Eliza Labs, Wayfinder Foundation, and ai16z, Saga aims to establish a thriving ecosystem for intelligent agents.

Metropolis.lol is positioned as an open-source agent runtime offering developers a comprehensive toolkit to build AI-driven applications. Saga described it as a "reality arbitrage protocol" in a recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter). This new initiative focuses on creating a decentralized society where AI agents can operate and evolve efficiently.

Virtuals Protocol plays a key role in this ecosystem by powering the Metropolis Butler Agent, ensuring smooth interactions between agents and the Metropolis environment. Eliza Labs contributes scalable AI functionality through the ElizaOS framework, while Wayfinder Foundation enhances agent navigation across multi-chain blockchain ecosystems.

This launch builds on Saga’s previous innovations. A month ago, the company rolled out Mainnet 2.0, transforming blockchain economics. Through partnerships like one with Uniswap, Saga introduced autonomous chain deployment, empowering agents to create and manage Chainlets independently. The upcoming Liquidity Integration Layer (LIL), expected in Q1 2025, promises to improve cross-chain liquidity, driving AI-powered economic systems.

The rise of AI agents has sparked significant interest in the blockchain sector. Following Saga's announcements, the VIRTUAL token, which powers the Virtuals Protocol ecosystem, surged by 30%, trading at $3.73. This growth reflects increasing enthusiasm for AI-integrated technologies and their potential to revolutionize industries like gaming, where Virtuals Protocol has partnered with Illuvium to create more realistic in-game characters.

This trend extends beyond gaming. Financial leaders like Franklin Templeton foresee AI agents reshaping financial ecosystems, while Multicoin Capital predicts they will drive blockchain innovation by 2025. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman envisions AI agents enabling automated governance and sophisticated economic systems in decentralized applications. Similarly, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed excitement about their transformative potential, calling AI agents a "multi-trillion dollar opportunity."

The backing of prominent venture firms like ai16z, which emphasizes optimizing tokenomics for AI agents, underscores their growing importance. With these advancements, AI agents are set to become pivotal players in blockchain and broader technology ecosystems.
