Strategy sold 3,588 bitcoin for $216 million in a week

Strategy Inc sold 3,588 bitcoin for approximately $216 million during the week ended 5 July 2026. The company sold 1,363 bitcoin for $80.8 million between 29 and 30 June, at an average of $59,256 per coin. It then sold 2,225 bitcoin for $135.2 million between 1 and 5 July, at an average of $60,773. The average sale price across the week was close to $60,000 per coin. Michael Saylor's firm disclosed the sales in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 6 July 2026.

Proceeds funded preferred stock distributions and dollar reserves

Strategy said the proceeds funded payment of distributions on its preferred stock. The sales also replenished the part of its dollar reserve used for those payments. Strategy funds distributions across several preferred stock series listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The company's US dollar reserve stood at $2.55 billion as of 5 July 2026. Strategy maintains the reserve to support those dividends and interest on its debt.

Bitcoin traded near $61,500 at the time of publication

Bitcoin traded at $61,526.82 at the time of publication, down 1.74% over the past 24 hours (CoinPaprika, 6 July 2026). The price sat 51.31% below its record high of $126,173, reached on 6 October 2025. Bitcoin's market value was about $1.23 trillion (CoinPaprika, 6 July 2026). Over the past seven days, the price gained 3.41%.

Holdings now sit below their average purchase price

Strategy held 843,775 bitcoin as of 5 July 2026. It bought the coins for about $63.69 billion, at an average price of $75,476 each. That average now exceeds the market value of the holdings. Strategy reported an $8.32 billion loss on digital assets for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. Unrealized losses made up $8.31 billion of that total. The company's digital asset carrying value was $49.67 billion. Because the cost basis exceeded fair value, Strategy will record a valuation allowance against the deferred tax benefit tied to the unrealized loss.

Weekly sales pace climbed sharply from the prior month

The weekly total marked a sharp rise from earlier activity. According to CoinDesk, Strategy sold about 32 bitcoin roughly one month earlier. The company sold no shares under its at-the-market equity program between 29 June and 5 July. It also made no repurchases under its buyback programs during that period. Strategy's class A common stock trades under the ticker MSTR on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.

Strategy keeps $1.25 billion in further sale capacity

Strategy announced a bitcoin monetization program on 29 June 2026. The program lets the company sell bitcoin to raise up to $1.25 billion for its dollar reserve. Strategy may sell bitcoin from time to time under the program to fund the reserve. The full amount remained available as of 5 July 2026, which points to no sales under the program so far.
